PTA shines spotlight on student artworks with Reflections Program awards
|
San Jose - California State PTA's 110th annual convention put student artwork on center stage with performances, displays and awards for winners of its Reflections Program.
The National PTA Reflections Program is both an arts recognition and achievement program, providing opportunities for self-expression for students while increasing community awareness of the importance of arts in education.
The program was established in 1969 by National PTA board member Mary Lou Anderson. Since then, more than 10 million students have participated in the program.
Each student may enter in any of six art areas: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography and video/film production. Each student enters in the appropriate category depending on grade level. Participation is open to all students in PTA/PTSA schools in good standing.
The 2008-09 Reflections Program theme was "Wow!" The 1009-2010 theme is "Beauty is ..."
Student participants were recognized during convention sessions on May 1 and May 2.
