Are YOU going to the
California State PTA Convention?

It's big, and it's exciting.
It can also be a little confusing.

Even if you have attended convention before, it's a good idea to take a few moments to prepare.
  • Read through the Convention Registration Book to familiarize yourself with the schedule of activities.

  • Make the most of your time at convention by attending all of the general meetings. You will be informed, inspired and entertained, and you will take part in important decisions for our organization.
  • Be sure to schedule time to visit the display of Reflections winners, the PTA Store and the Exhibit Hall.

  • Click here to read one attendee's story of discovering the value of convention as a first-timer.
Think about the information that will be most useful to your PTA unit, council or district and plan to attend workshops on those topics. Remember that you can easily change your workshop selections online.

As an elected delegate to the California State PTA Convention, you will vote on proposed resolutions.

Convention resolutions help determine the future direction California State PTA and are used to justify PTA positions on proposed legislation or ballot propositions. Voting on resolutions is important work that should be taken seriously by every convention delegate!

This year, four resolutions will be considered:
  • Teen Driving Safety

  • Achievement: Eliminating the Gap

  • Lowering the Vote Requirement in the California State  Budget Process

  • Social Host Accountability and Underage Drinking

Prepare to be a responsible delegate by making sure that your PTA unit, council or district reads and discusses the resolutions and votes to support or oppose. This is the position that you should represent at convention.

Read all of the Resolutions!

You don't have to leave your son or daughter behind when you attend the California State PTA Convention. Invite your student to come with you!

Discover the Power of Student Involvement at Convention!

This is an exciting opportunity for students to discover how the California State PTA advocates for them and how they can get involved. If your student is elected as a full-time delegate by your PTA unit, council or district, he or she can participate in debating the issues and voting at the general meetings.

Special events are planned for students at the convention, including:

  • A student orientation by the five student members of the State Board of Managers.

  • A general meeting, run by the student state board members themselves, which includes a presentation by the California Teacher of the Year.

  • Nineteen workshops of interest to students, including one about "alcopops" and alcoholic energy drinks, and one that discusses how youth can build leadership skills.
