California State PTA Convention
April 30 to May 3 San Jose

Don't pass up this opportunity to learn more about your organization, attend workshops, and exchange ideas with parents from across the state.

Here is just a short sampling of courses for new PTA leaders:

  • Help! I'm a New Unit President

  • Treasurers Training - Basic to Advanced

  • Legal Aspects of PTA

  • Developing Emerging Leaders for the 21st Century

  • Fun with FUNdraising

  • Everything You Need to Know About Membership

  • You are on the Board - Now What? Spanish/English

  • Award Program Winning Ideas!

  • Reflections: Unleash the Talent!

  • How to Budget Recruiting Volunteers in the 21st Century
Make your voice heard at the general sessions, when our State PTA listens to its members as it charts its course for the coming years. This year's convention will also include the election and installation of new State PTA officers.

California State PTA has mailed each unit a Convention Registration Book with a day-to-day schedule of events, a complete list of workshops, and everything you need to register and reserve housing.

  • Check page 16 of the Registration Book to see how many delegates your unit may send.

  • Registration fees, travel expenses and meals are legitimate PTA expenses that should be paid or reimbursed by your unit.

  • Check the Registration Book for one-day or full-time nonvoting registration fees.

Nominate Next Year's Leaders

By now, units should have elected their nominating committees at an association meeting. Remind your Nominating Committee members that they have a very important job to do.

  • They should make a commitment to keep their meetings completely confidential, so that they can honestly and frankly discuss the qualifications of each possible candidate, without causing any ill feelings.

  • Encourage them to consider new talent, rather than just rotating existing officers into different positions, to keep the organization vibrant and to develop new leaders.

Recognize Your Special Volunteers

Honor the people who have made a real difference for children in your school or community with an Honorary Service Award
from California State PTA.

  • Be sure to order awards from California PTA as soon as possible, as it may take several weeks for delivery.

  • Participating in the HSA program is a wonderful way to recognize your special volunteers and also helps support the work of PTA. The funds contributed for HSA awards support the California PTA scholarship and grant program.
