QUICK LINKS

Dear Fellows, ,

Like many of you, I decided to see Avatar over the holidays. Not knowing what to expect, I was surprised by the beauty and wisdom embedded in the plot. I was particularly touched by the notions and visuals around the theme of connection - beautiful, really - and not what I expected from the sci-fi heavy previews.

My favorite line in the movie was taken from native folklore. "I see you" is the way some native tribesmen greet one another. During my tenure with LEADERSHIP I have come to understand the profound power of that statement. Most of us tend to feel invisible and often treat others that way. We forget to say hello as we walk past colleagues, or goodbye as we leave the house. When you take that extra moment to see someone - your colleague, or client, or child - both of you are energized. The person who sees learns something about the other. The person who is seen feels acknowledged and valued. This brief, encouraging exchange increases the likelihood that both people will take a moment going forward to see yet another person, who then receives the gift of being seen. And so on and so forth, and suddenly the community is more tightly connected.

So later today, or some time this week, remind yourself to pause, make eye contact, and practice the "I see you" leadership competency. It's another win/win strategy and a way to build community. Yet another way to Pay It Forward.

Warmly,

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

"One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for aminute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied:

"The one you feed."
Devereux SEPA - Silent Auction Request!

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to help a worthwhile non-profit? I have been working with Devereux (www.devereux.org) on some of their fund raising efforts, and we are currently seeking items to be included in the silent auction at their Annual Golf Classic (June 28th, 2010). Make this a win/ win opportunity for you and your company by donating an item to the auction. You get the benefit of making a donation to a worthwhile non-profit, and Devereux benefits from being able to auction the item. We are seeking donations of all types ( sports tickets & memorabilia, golf courses, vacation homes, dinner certificates, etc.) If you have something to consider, please contact Howard Lebold (hvl@mcgillinarch.com) at McGillin Architecture, Inc. (610-664-6577). This is a fantastic organization that would deeply appreciate your support.
