QUICK LINKS
Dear Fellows,,

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. It offers the warmth of friends and family without the obligations and expectations that come with Christmas. As is our custom, my children and I will head to St. Paul to be with my 91 year old Dad and the cousins. Beyond the basics, we'll make the usual pilgrimages to the Guthrie Theater and the places where F. Scott Fitzgerald went in our  neighborhood long ago.

What I want you to know is that when I count my blessings, I number you among them.  The great joy of this job is the privilege of stepping into the life of someone like you, knowing that we'll both be better off for it. My favorite part is that "Aha!" moment when you realize something about yourself or see something about Philadelphia that you did not know before. Little else feels better than watching you grow more knowledgeable, confident, and committed.

I believe that you are aware that we see our work as a calling. We are grateful for jobs that are so rich in meaning and in access to well-intentioned professionals. So in this season (and in all seasons) we are thankful to be a part of your journey.

Warmly,

Liz Dow

The Journal invites all Leadership Philadelphia and the Connectors to get involved in the Journal:

Acclaimed acting veteran Kevin Bacon and his brotherMichael, an award-winning film baconbros smalland TV composer, both born and raised in Philadelphia, are donating their time and talent to help save The Mummers. On Saturday, December 5, 2009, their band, The Bacon Brothers, will create an evening of music and Mummery at a benefit concert at Philadelphia's Electric Factory (421 N. 7th Street, between Callowhill and Spring Garden). The concert willraise money to help save The Mummers, one of the great cultural icons of Philadelphia, with all proceeds being donated to SaveTheMummers.com. We are thrilled to have a Bacon sister, Hilda, in our Core class this year.

Tickets are currently on sale at
www.savethemummers.com, and selling fast. The cost is $39.50 for general admission, or $100 for VIP balcony seating.

The annual Mummers Parade on New Year's Day is the nation's oldest continuous folk parade, an extravaganza that brings south Broad Street alive with unique music and art. Because of the economic crisis faced by the City of Philadelphia, the Mummers are striving to be self reliant in continuing the tradition in 2010 and beyond. The benefit concert is part of a broader campaign to create support from the general public to help save this great artistic treasure.
