liz Dear Alumni,

Last week I had the pleasure of participating in a town meeting led by Chris Satullo and Harris Sokoloff on the "This We Believe " city-wide mural project. Jane Golden '96 welcomed the diverse group of Philadelphians. It was fascinating and touching to hear the range of viewpoints and stories that define this city of neighborhoods. After the meeting, I came across the following quote from Thomas Moore:

"If we could really love the place where we were born and the place where we live, and let its history, geography, and genius enter our lives and affect them in every aspect, then we might not be so fearful when we meet people who love their place and its own ways, and more positively, we might find the security we need in the ground under our feet..."

In this season of economic uncertainty tempered by the certainty of the fresh green start of spring, it makes sense to think about grounding.
What keeps you grounded?

                                                                           Fondly,
                                                                                   Liz

Pay It Forward

Junto 4 from Leadership Class of '08 is still at it!

The team is re-running our team project from last year, called "4 the Future" with a new group of students at Germantown HS. We continue to work closely with Terry Ward-Filmore and Jason Weems, program coordinators with EducationWorks Beacon Center at GHS. Our Junto's most recent session was about Future Learning - goal setting, thinking about the future, career options, etc. We had a special guest appearance by Dominique Newton and Michael Ward, GHS seniors that were involved as students in our program in 2008, and they gave an outstanding witness to their involvement in our program with them last year, how it has impacted them, and what they are doing now. That generated a lot of energy, enthusiasm and questions from the group. The icing on the cake was that they were extremely complimentary of  how our program helped them, and how much support they have received from the Mural Arts program, where they are working part time and receiving mentoring.  Now they are already Paying it Forward!

Junto 4 2008 Members: Catherine Adams, Peter Ancona, Carol Dowling, Aimee Kenson, Paul Kohl, Obah Mohamed, Mark Mummert, Kathryn Ott Lovell, and Anita Scott.

pin2 LEADERSHIP Philadelphia Pin

Over the years it has been suggested that we create a LEADERSHIP lapel pin. We would like to ask your opinion on the subject to gauge interest.  The pin would be similar to the one pictured above, with the LEADERSHIP logo in the center, and would cost about $100. Please vote to express your interest, or lack of interest, on making a pin available. Voting Yes does NOT commit you to buying a pin.

Please vote here. Thank you!
