Even though summer is a time to kick back and enjoy a more relaxed family routine, CASA staff and volunteer advocates have not skipped a beat. Over the past month, we've noted an increase in children entering the foster care system. Fortunately, we have volunteers and staff working together to serve each and every Collin County child in CPS custody. But we need your help to continue our work. Join our next volunteer class and speak up for a child. Learn about the many ways you can offer financial support to CASA and make sure we have the resources we need to continue to provide hope and help for our children. Tell others about your involvement with CASA and encourage them to visit our website, become a fan of our Facebook and lend their voice to the fight against child abuse! Our children are counting on us all!

Volunteer Spotlight
Want to know what difference you can make in a child's life? Read this story submitted from Holly Beckerley, CASA Casework Supervisor about one of her volunteers, Vic Myers, and the foster child he helped find a forever home!Holly shares, "As a CASA Casework Supervisor, I get the chance to work with 25 dedicated Volunteer Advocates who serve our vulnerable foster children. I'd like to highlight one of my wonderful volunteers and share the story about BC and his CASA, Vic."BC is a fifteen year old boy who had been in the CPS system since he was eight years old. His parents were young when he was born and due to their own struggles, BC had to be removed from their care. A year later, their parental rights were terminated. During the next 7 years, BC moved 31 times, from foster homes to psychiatric hospitals and residential treatment centers.Holly continues, "Vic was truly instrumental in BC's life. When I assigned Vic to BC's case, he was still in a Residential Treatment Center, shortly after he got released into a foster home and ran away. Vic was right on board with looking at family members that were previously ruled out. When BC was placed with his great grandmother, she would call Vic several times a week for advice. Vic worked closely with BC's school to ensure he was getting all the support he needed. I had the Attorney ad Litem and CPS worker tell me how much they appreciated Vic's hard work with BC. Vic gives the time and dedication to his cases in order to help an at risk teen find a safe and permanent forever home, with a relative able to care for him."

Thanks to Sally Torkildson and Sherry Cassidy, our friends from InTouch Credit Union, 16 tickets for foster children, their families and CASA Volunteers got to enjoy a great Rough Rider Game last month. Pictured in the center is Nathan Bush, who raised over $300 for CASA last month. One of the foster kids caught a fly ball. According to his CASA volunteer, he's faced numerous unsuccessful foster homes due to emotional factors. However, he is now working towards moving in with family as long as his progress continues.
Thank you, InTouch Credit Union, for bringing hope and happiness to the foster children we serve!
