Capital Campaign Chair Announced
Longtime CASA of Collin County supporter and Mayor of Melissa, the Honorable David Dorman, is heading the 2008 Capital Campaign.
We've outgrown our present location and Mayor Dorman and the CASA board have located a larger facility which will allow casework supervisors to have their own offices, provide a private visitation room for children and their families, a conference room for training new volunteers and volunteer workspace. The building also has parking for staff and visitors.
The new facility is located in downtown McKinney, allowing for easy access to the Collin County Courthouse. Additional information about the campaign will be coming soon. |
New CASA Website Debuts Soon

Take to the Links for Annual Golf Torney
Channel 8 Sports Anchor Joe Trahan invites all golfers to join him in supporting the Annual CASAs for KIDs Classic Golf Tournament June 2 at the beautiful Gentle Creek Golf Club in Prosper.
The event features contests including closest to the pin, longest drive, hole-in-one and more! Lunch, a post-tournament dinner and awards add to the day, beginning with a scramble and shotgun start at 11:30 am. Gala Set for February 7, 2009
Mark the date of February 7, 2009, for the Voice for Children Gala. Committee co-chairs Danya Timmons and Jenny Woodling are beginning preparations for the major CASA of Collin County fundraiser which will be at the Hotel Intercontinental with a romantic theme.
Danya, left, and Jenny say their primary purpose is to plan a night of fun and provide abused and neglected children with the support and voice they desperately need.
Committees are now forming for the event, which will include dining, dancing, silent and live auctions as well as other surprises.
If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact the CASA office to volunteer, 972-529-2272. |

CASA Volunteers Honored at Luncheon; Training Begins
CASA volunteers who have closed cases between January and May, 2008, will be honored at a June luncheon. Invitations will be sent soon to those who have successfully placed abused and neglected children in loving homes, a process which, under some circumstances, can take several years.
Following the June luncheon, the recognition luncheons will be held quarterly.
Training classes for new volunteers begin this month. The series is 30 hours, culminating with a swearing-in ceremony at the Collin County Courthouse. Volunteers must be willing to make a one-year commitment to the program to provide consistency for the children.
Anyone wishing to volunteer may contact Dianne McCall, 972-529-2272, for more information. Classes are held quarterly. |
We hope you enjoyed your personal issue of The CASA Advocate. If you know someone that would be interested in hearing about us, please forward them a copy. Questions and comments are always welcome and may be sent to enews@casaofcollincounty.org.
Sincerely, CASA of Collin County |

April Volunteer Makes a Difference |
|
Kate Brandeland, one of CASA of Collin County's hardest-working volunteers, has represented 39 children in her 8 years as an advocate.
"No other group I have found offers this level of commitment, she explains.
People really consider what we have to say - we are not on the fringe. I never feel that my participaton has no effect."
Kate's husband, Bruce, has recently joined her as a volunteer and the couple is working on cases together.
Her dedication to one little boy earned her the "Individual Child Advocate of the Year" award presented by Collin County Children's Advocacy Center. | |
