Millions Awarded to Sustain Crucial Services
Nearly $2.7 million was recently awarded to nonprofits in Greater New Haven through The Foundation's annual
competitive grant application process.
The economic downturn created challenges for the local non-profit sector shaping grantmaking decisions in many ways.
The increased demand for crucial services underscored the need for nonprofits to diversify revenue sources and build their donor base. Grants for operational, development and marketing support topped the list.
Funds were distributed across a broad range of community interests including, mental and behavioral health, arts and culture, food and shelter, education, environmental conservation, substance abuse and more.
In looking ahead to 2010, The Foundation sees new opportunities for nonprofit collaborations, increased donor engagement and community dialogue.
