AIDS SERVICES OF DALLAS HOLIDAYS
2008 Holiday Season Ways to Help
The holiday season is right around the corner. For many of us, it is a time to celebrate the joy and blessings we enjoy with the people we love. For those less fortunate, the holidays can be sad and lonely, or a time of joy and blessing. You make the difference. You can make the holidays special for the 170 men, women and children living at AIDS Services of Dallas by purchasing a gift or helping to wrap and sort holiday gifts. Our residents love to share the holidays together and look forward all year to Santa's surprises. It may be a set of pots and pans or a warm jacket that will make their holiday special. If you would like to help the men, women and children living at ASD have a wonderful holiday please contact Alexis Sanchez at 214-941-4411 ext.501 asanchez@aidsdallas.org or Diana Cuellar at 214-942-2697 dcuellar@aidsdallas.org |

PROTEST at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH DALLAS - Sunday, Nov. 9 10:00 am

'Why Gay is Not O.K.' sign prompts protest at First Baptist Dallas. Sam Fulcher sends word this afternoon that he's organizing an LGBT protest outside First Baptist Dallas this Sunday. The protest is being planned in response to the above sign, which indicates that three sermons are scheduled for Sunday on "Why Gay is Not O.K." Fulcher said he first noticed the sign when he was driving home from an Election Night party, of all things.
"I found it ironic and sad that on a night of such history and hope I was greeted with a sign stating 'Gay is Not O.K.' As one barrier is being shattered homophobia is alive and well and still accepted enough to be on the side of a building. The recent passing of bans on gay marriage in many of our states make this point even more obvious."
In case you're wondering, below is Matthew 19:3-6, which doesn't appear to say anything about why "Gay is Not O.K." Fulcher said the protesters will gather beginning at 1707 San Jacinto. For more information about the protest, e-mail Fulcher at samblade8@yahoo.com | |

OUT TAKES DALLAS
10th Anniversary "Season of Film"
Thursday, Nov. 13 The Annual Lesbian & Gay Film Festival - has announced it's first ever "Season of Film" in place of the traditional 10 day Fall film festival that celebrates it's 10th Anniversary in November. The Festival Board of Director's has chosen to address a myriad of issues that we have encountered over the years by making a radical change to the festival format. Instead of a 10 day festival, the organization intends to provide monthly screenings of film that are of interest to the GLBTQ audience. Beginning on Thursday, November 13th and continuing each second Thursday of the month, OUT TAKES Dallas will screen films that would traditionally be seen at GLBTQ Film Festivals across the country.
OUT TAKES Dallas 10 - "A Season of Film" is presented by The Dallas Voice and The UPS Store at Cedar Springs. The first quarter films:
Nov 13 - "The World Unseen" at The Inwood - In 1950's South Africa, apartheid is just beginning. Free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community, and the new apartheid-led government, by running a café with Jacob, her 'coloured' business partner. When she meets Miriam, a traditional wife and mother, their friendship pushes Miriam to question the rules that bind her. When Amina helps Miriam's sister-in-law to hide from the police, a chain of events is set in motion that has far reaching consequences. In a system that divides white from black and women from men, what chance is there for happiness? From overcoming oppression to finding personal freedom, to the hesitant joy of an unexpected love affair, The World Unseen transports the viewer to a vibrant, colourful world that is universal in its themes.
