For those less fortunate, the holidays can be sad and lonely, or a time of joy and blessing. You make the difference. You can make the holidays special for the 170 men, women and children living at AIDS Services of Dallas by purchasing a gift or helping to wrap and sort holiday gifts. Our residents love to share the holidays together and look forward all year to Santa's surprises. It may be a set of pots and pans or a warm jacket that will make their holiday special. OUT TAKES DALLAS
10th Anniversary "Season of Film"
Thursday, Nov. 13 The Annual Lesbian & Gay Film Festival - has announced it's first ever "Season of Film" in place of the traditional 10 day Fall film festival that celebrates it's 10th Anniversary in November. The Festival Board of Director's has chosen to address a myriad of issues that we have encountered over the years by making a radical change to the festival format. Instead of a 10 day festival, the organization intends to provide monthly screenings of film that are of interest to the GLBTQ audience. Beginning on Thursday, November 13th and continuing each second Thursday of the month, OUT TAKES Dallas will screen films that would traditionally be seen at GLBTQ Film Festivals across the country.
OUT TAKES Dallas 10 - "A Season of Film" is presented by The Dallas Voice and The UPS Store at Cedar Springs. The first quarter films:
Nov 13 - "The World Unseen" at The Inwood - In 1950's South Africa, apartheid is just beginning. Free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community, and the new apartheid-led government, by running a café with Jacob, her 'coloured' business partner. When she meets Miriam, a traditional wife and mother, their friendship pushes Miriam to question the rules that bind her. When Amina helps Miriam's sister-in-law to hide from the police, a chain of events is set in motion that has far reaching consequences. In a system that divides white from black and women from men, what chance is there for happiness? From overcoming oppression to finding personal freedom, to the hesitant joy of an unexpected love affair, The World Unseen transports the viewer to a vibrant, colourful world that is universal in its themes.

Pet of the Week
DFW
Humane Society
Violet is a female, spayed Shepherd Mix about 1 year old. This "good girl" is weighing it at about 50 lbs. and is red. She was surrendered to try and find a good home without children. I am an energetic, playful one-year-old girl who just loves to cuddle. I would happily spend time laying next to you on the couch for some lovin'! I am full of spunk and personality and would do well in a home without children or other pets. If you are looking for a sweet and friendly dog, I'm the girl for you!
If you can adopt Violet and give her a good home, please contact the DFW Humane Society at 972-253-3333, or check out one of the many other pets that need a home by visiting their web site.
