Fall Has Arrived!
Fun Weekend at Dallas Pride
What a fun time we all had this past weekend at Dallas Pride. You can view photos and watch the replay of the Pride Parade web cast online at www.dallasprideparade.com . And now that Fall has officially arrived, more great events are coming up this week (see events list below).
One big event will be the October First Wednesday on Cedar Springs which takes place this Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

HURRICANE IKE RELIEF - FOOD DRIVE
Kroger Albertson's Tom Thumb
The North Texas and Tarrant Area Food Banks Team Up with Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertsons to Help Sister Food Banks and Victims of Hurricane Ike. All of us know someone down South that has been impacted. Here's how you can help.. You can purchase pre-packaged bags ranging from $5 to $20 at your neighborhood Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertsons in the DFW Metroplex. These bags contain essential non-perishable items for those in need. Customers can simply leave their bags at the store and they will be donated to the NTFB in Dallas or TAFB in Fort Worth. In addition, you can also drop off donations at the Food Banks: NTFB located at 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Rd. Dallas, 75236 and TAFB located at 2600 Cullen Street Fort Worth, 76107. Or you can donate online.

THE WOMEN'S CHORUS OF DALLAS 20th SEASON
"Season of Celebration"
The Women's Chorus of Dallas is proud to present our 20th Season - "Season of Celebration."
The Chorus will kick-off the Season with a Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11. Past members and supporters are invited to join us on Friday evening for seeing old friends and remembering old times. Saturday evening will feature "Commemoration", an Anniversary Party featuring live music from The Women's Chorus of Dallas including several old favorites with past singing members joining in on the fun! Of course, an Anniversary Party would not be complete without a guest appearance from The Turtle Creek Chorale!
Join us on Saturday, October 11 at 8:00 PM at the Cathedral of Hope. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets may be purchased online at www.twcd.org or by calling 214-520-7828.

REGISTER TO VOTE
There is a very important election coming up. Are you registered? The deadline to register and be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2008 General Election is October 6, 2008. This can be either the postmark date or the date the application is received in the office of the voter registrar. You may, of course, register at any time before that date to ensure that your registration is effective for voting in November. You can obtain a voter registration application from your voter registrar's office, libraries, most post offices, high schools, or from this office (use link).

STATE FAIR OF TEXAS
Opening Day Friday, Sept. 26
Big Tex says "Howdy Folks!" Yes, it's time for the State Fair of Texas. The fairgrounds open today and the festivitives run thru October 19th. This year, the entertainment includes the Nerveless Nocks Daredevil Stunt Show, Rodney Atkins, Jessica Simpson, Bell Biv DeVoe and the return of 'Illumination Senstaion', the spectacular light show in the Esplanade reflecting pool (nightly at 8:00 pm).
The Prairie View/Grambling State Fair Classic is Saturday, October 4th (6:00 pm) and the TX/OU Red River Rivaly is the following Saturday, October 11th at 11:00 am. The State Fair exhibit buildings open daily at 10:00 am and close at 10:00 pm Fri-Mon and at 9:00 pm Tues-Thurs. Midway opening and closing hours vary. INT'L PUPPY & TRAINER CONFERENCE
Friday, Sept. 26 thru Sunday, Sept. 28
In it's 8th year of production, this is the only Pup-specific educational weekend of its kind. It starts with a Meet & Greet at the Dallas Eagle on Friday night and continues on late Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the Sterling Hotel. Whether you are a puppy, a Trainer or just curious about the lifestyle, we encourage you to join us for the International Puppy and Trainer Conference. The weekend will include classes and workshops. Vendors from across the nation will be displaying there wares at the hotel. The vendor fair is open to the "over 18" public with ID. IPTC is held in conjunction with Beyond Vanilla (BV). LONE STAR RIDE FIGHTING AIDS
Saturday, Sept 27 & Sunday, Sept. 28
Lone Star Ride is a two-day cycling adventure through scenic country roads and two great Texas cities. We start out Saturday, September 27, in "Big D" and ride west through rolling countryside to Glen Rose, Texas. Sunday we rise early for the shorter final leg into Fort Worth. Our goal is to raise money to fight AIDS and support those affected by HIV/AIDS. For both riders and crewmembers, it's a great way to meet new friends and have a lot of fun while supporting a serious cause. With hilarious pit stops, an evening party and live entertainment, it's an unforgettable cycling experience.

MR & MISS CHARITY AMERICA 2009

Home for the Holidays Texas presents the Mr. & Miss Charity America 2009 Pageant Sunday night at the Round-Up Saloon. The theme this year is "World Diversity" and will feature Mr. & Miss Charity America 2009 Roy Sonne and Skyla Miles. There will be a $5 donation request at the door. ON CEDAR SPRINGS "Pretty in Pink" Wednesday, Oct. 1 6:00 - 9:00 pm Wednesday evening, Oct. 1 will bring us another edition of First Wednesday on Cedar Springs from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This month's theme: "Pretty in Pink" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Drop by the tent outside Buli Cafe, spin the prize wheel (with a $5 Breast Cancer Donation) for a chance to win cash, great food and fabulous prizes. Shop all the merchants on the street for great bargains and specials. Many of the local retailers will also have wine tasting events and other special perks. Dallas Southern Pride is a weekend event fearturing workshops, seminars and parties. This year's theme is "A Taste of Dallas". Dallas Southern Pride's mission is to build awareness of pride in the Same Gender Loving (SGL)/ Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community of color. Also, to create a funding source and support for organizations which are addressing health, educational, and economic issues adversely affecting our community. Cary Grant is a neutered Domestic Short Hair Male about 2 years old and he weighs 8 lbs. He is black and white and was rescued from another shelter. Cary Grant says "I am dressed in my tuxedo-ready to win your heart. I am a 2 year old male that was rescued by another shelter by these wonderful people at the Humane Society." Like the old movie star,Cary Grant, I am quite a charmer. Please come by and let snuggle on up to you.
