It's the wseekend to show your Pride.
The 2008 Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade and Festival in Lee Park is this weekend (Sunday, Sept. 21), and local Pride events are now in full swing. We have many events happening in the community. You can find a complete listing on the Dallas Pride Parade web site sponsored by the Dallas Tavern Guild. There is even a .pdf document listing all the events that you can print out.

HRC Volunteers Needed for Parade and Festival
HRC needs you to be a part of our efforts in support of LGBT equality! All volunteers are invited to attend a pre-pride breakfast of bagels and mimosas from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. You will also receive your HRC t-shirt at this time. Help carry the giant HRC flag in the Pride parade! Sunday, September 21 11:00 a.m. - Meet at corner of Cedar Spring Rd. & Wycliff Ave. 12:00 a.m. - Parade Line-up 2:00 p.m. - Step-Off

HURRICANE IKE RELIEF - FOOD DRIVE
Kroger Albertson's Tom Thumb
The North Texas and Tarrant Area Food Banks Team Up with Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertsons to Help Sister Food Banks and Victims of Hurricane Ike. All of us know someone down South that has been impacted. Here's how you can help.. You can purchase pre-packaged bags ranging from $5 to $20 at your neighborhood Kroger, Tom Thumb and Albertsons in the DFW Metroplex. These bags contain essential non-perishable items for those in need. Customers can simply leave their bags at the store and they will be donated to the NTFB in Dallas or TAFB in Fort Worth. In addition, you can also drop off donations at the Food Banks: NTFB located at 4500 S. Cockrell Hill Rd. Dallas, 75236 and TAFB located at 2600 Cullen Street Fort Worth, 76107. Or you can donate online.

REGISTER TO VOTE
There is a very important election coming up. Are you registered? The deadline to register and be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2008 General Election is October 6, 2008. This can be either the postmark date or the date the application is received in the office of the voter registrar. You may, of course, register at any time before that date to ensure that your registration is effective for voting in November. You can obtain a voter registration application from your voter registrar's office, libraries, most post offices, high schools, or from this office (use link).

THE ILUME ON CEDAR SPRINGS
A few weeks back, we included the just released Architectural drawing of the new ILUME under construction on Cedar Springs.
This week, DallasNews.com had an indepth article on the site.
The News is reporting: "The five-story complex - already under construction - would be at home in West Hollywood or Miami's South Beach.
More than 300 apartments and 23,000 square feet of retail space will be in the building, which sits on the former site of a Tom Thumb supermarket."

LONE STAR RIDE FIGHTING AIDS

Lone Star Ride is a two-day cycling adventure through scenic country roads and two great Texas cities. We start out Saturday, September 27, in "Big D" and ride west through rolling countryside to Glen Rose, Texas. Sunday we rise early for the shorter final leg into Fort Worth. Our goal is to raise money to fight AIDS and support those affected by HIV/AIDS. For both riders and crewmembers, it's a great way to meet new friends and have a lot of fun while supporting a serious cause. With hilarious pit stops, an evening party and live entertainment, it's an unforgettable cycling experience.

Sally is a spayed Terrier Mix Female about 1 year old and she weighs 11 lbs. She is brown and tan and was rescued from another shelter.
Sally is very sweet and friendly. She is looking for a home without small children. Show a little pride this week and add a little pride to your life. Sally would make a great companion.
