Friends of Reverchon Park
What a great event coming soon to Oak Lawn... Friends of Reverchon Park will be holding its 2nd annual baseball game between Dallas Police and Dallas Firefighters on Saturday, September 13. Anyone who is interested in assisting with this event can email us here at Oak Lawn Newsletter. Volunteers are certainly needed. More information will be provided at the July Crime Watch meeting this Wednesday (Noon) at the Oak Lawn Library.

Camp Equality
August 16-17 presented by the
Human Rights Campaign
Join us in Dallas the weekend of August 16-17 for an exciting training that will put you in position to help make 2008 the Year to Win for GLBT individuals across the country. This year, elections will occur for a new president, all U.S. House members, one-third of the U.S. Senate, and thousands of state legislators. The Human Rights Campaign will be on the campaign trail every step of the way - and we want you to be there, too. Camp Equality is a two-day training session to develop and hone campaigning skills.
Whether you are just getting involved in the electoral process or are a campaign professional, Camp Equality can help you learn how to become more effective at advocating your causes and your candidates. Registration for is $35 and includes a one-year HRC membership.

Miss Legacy Pageant
Sunday, July 13 Round Up Saloon 8:00 pm
Founded in 1989, Legacy Counseling Center provides counseling and critical care services for persons impacted with HIV and AIDS. Over the past 18 years, Legacy (a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency partially funded under the Ryan White C.A.R.E. Act and the State of Texas HIV Services Grant) has provided care to thousands of individuals and is the largest agency of its kind in the Southwest. Legacy also operates Founders Cottage, a licensed seven-bedroom housing facility in Oak Cliff providing 24-hour supervised care for critically ill AIDS patients. The Miss Legacy Pageant is a funding source for Legacy. Remember for every dollar you raise both before and during the pageant, you will receive one point on your total score. Yes, this pageant can be bought, and we would love for you to do it. All applications are due Friday, July 11, 2008 - that's tonight folks! Complete information can be found online.

Voice of Pride 2008 Preliminaries Coors presents The Dallas Tavern Guild production of The 2008 Voice of Pride

Thursday, July 17 Elimination Rounds
The 2008 Voice of Pride Competition is coordinated by the Dallas Tavern Guild in conjunction with our June Pride Month Celebration. This year the winner will get $5,000 in cash prizes and also receive two (2) round-trip tickets anywhere in the world that Delta Airlines flies.
The preliminary rounds have concluded and now it's on to the elmination rounds leading up to the Semi-Finals and Finals. The first elimination round will be Tuesday, July 15 at the Dallas Eagle, and the second will be Thursday, July 17th at Buddies II. Both contests begin at 9:00 pm.
Reserved tables at the Semi-Finals and Finals are now on sale for 4 at $100 each and are available for both events. To reserve a table for Semi-Finals call the Round-Up Saloon (214-522-9611). To reserve a table for Finals, e-mail: chris@caven.com

Dallas Lesbian Festival
Saturday, July 26 Sue Ellen's Parking Lot 3:00 - 8:00 pm
The second annual Dallas Lesbian Festival will be held Saturday, July 26 from 3pm - 8pm in the parking lot at 3009 Throckmorton. The festival will benefit the Resource Center of Dallas' Family Violence Program and Rockin' for Rescue. Rain or shine, there will be food, drink, fun and surprises. And yes, it is pet-friendly! All girl bands will be performing on the stage, featuring Sarah Bettens. Also performing will be Anton Shaw, Ciao Bella and Kathy Corbin. Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the gate. A limited number of presale tickets are on sale at Sue Ellen's.

Monthly Meeting The monthly Oak Lawn Crime Watch meeting will be held Wednesday (July 16) at Noon at the Oak Lawn Library. Everyone in invited and encouraged to attend. Included will be a panel discussion by several apartment managers concerning problems and solutions they have dealt with recently. |
