Oak Lawn Newsletter - Friday, June 27
Greetings!
Katy Trail Gets New Lighting
This past Monday night, local dignitaries including (pictured) City Councilmember Pauline Medrano, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and City Councilmember Angela Hunt were on hand to throw the switch for the first installment of new lighting on the Katy Trail. The lights are placed along the Trail from the AAC to Maple Ave.
The Katy Trail Lighting Project, a key element of the Friends of the Katy Trail's master plan to create a great American park in the heart of Dallas, allows for increased Trail use and safety. Lights will be on from 6 am to Sunrise and from dusk to 11 pm.
Now that the lights are on, the Katy Trail needs your help to finish the lighting. Trail users just like you have already given more than $60,000 to meeting a $100,000 challenge from the Hoblitzelle Foundation. If you would like to donate, you may do so on their website.
Watch the video of the Lighting Ceremony on Oaklawn.TV
If you have a community event or interested news item, please email us all the info to include in future newsletters.

| A Community 'Thank You' to
Spectrum-MRC
Spectrum-MRC is a motorcycle riding club for GLBT/Friendly riders (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender). All types of motorcyclists and their passengers are welcome as well as those who have an interest in learning to ride. The group is designed to connect riders and foster kinship between like-minded people.
Since the first "December first Wednesday", Spectrum-MRC has donated the sound used on the sidewalk. Mike DeVore generously donates his time and expertise to give us those refreshing tunes on the street. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The club sponsors many local and state-wide events.
This past December the club adopted 25 students from Sam Houston to purchase Christmas presents for the annual Sam Houston Christmas Project. The motorcycle ridding club "spectrum" is set to become one of the major sponsors of the Lesbian Festival at Sue Ellen's on July 26th as a gesture to give something to the community.
As stated on their website: "Spectrum-MRC is a mainstream motorcycle riding club. Our members are everyday people with normal jobs just like yours. We ride various types of motorcycles, from 100cc dirt bikes to full custom S&S equipped cruisers. The major distinguishing factor of Spectrum-MRC is that our members are all GLBT and Friendly motorcyclists."
We send out a big "Thank You" to their continued community involvement. If you would like to find out more about this community organization, visit their web site.
