Dear Doctor

The Art and Science of BDNF measurement by ELISA

The quantification of BDNF and other Neurotrophins has been possible for 20 years, but accurate measurement requires significant investment of time and resources. Published work highlights this difficulty as reported BDNF concentrations in tissue extracts and body fluids vary by as much as 100 fold from different laboratories.  Leading researchers have addressed this issue in several publications detailing both the problems and ways in which they can be resolved. Inaccurate results derive from poor standards, inadequate extraction protocols, low sensitivity assays and the presence of binding proteins. The following publications are important contributions that provide helpful guidance for the measurement of neurotrophins.
