Sales Secret #31

The Power of Transformation: The Prerequisite
We've been talking about transformation for the past several Secrets, but reading about the subject is, frankly, unlikely to do much good!

Now don't get upset or disempowered; the same goes with almost all communications that can make a profound difference.

I just heard an interview where another celebrity, having overcome substance abuse, had found God and had turned his life around. He was in and out of rehab, but doing it for the wrong reasons, he said. Finally, he had decided that the main reason was to transform himself, and that made all the difference.

In other words, he had made a deep, unyielding commitment to himself. Other reasons hadn't made much difference to him.

There's a lesson in here for all of us: You simply can't set out to transform yourself unless you have an unshakeable commitment to transform.

That sounds rather straightforward, but it really isn't. How many millions of diets have failed because the people taking them on weren't really committed? Sure, they all wanted a result. In many cases they were absolutely passionate about it. Some of them even did affirmations, prayed, and even struggled to follow every step of the diet to a "T."

But even the vast majority of these well-intentioned people fail. Ultimately, their commitment faded away, or they gave in bit by bit until they had completely reverted to their previous habits.

Do you really want a transformed life, i.e., one that is full of new adventure, excitement, and unprecedented results?

If you answered yes, then you're going to have to bear down and do the work.

Go back over the last three weeks of Sales and Prospecting Secrets, re-read them and do the homework. Seriously. Even if you've already done the homework, do it again. And do every piece of homework from this point forward. Otherwise, this won't make any difference in your life at all (I'm totally serious about this).

If you don't do the work, the best you can have is a "blinding flash of the obvious" or an "aha" moment. But if you really take yourself on and look at your life through the context of transformation, new possibilities will show up for you to take action on. When that happens, do what you have to do out of this new-found freedom. That's just the way transformation works. Then, to keep it real for yourself, share what you've seen (and done) for yourself with others.

Next week: Laying a groundwork of integrity.

LAST WEEK'S HOMEWORK: What client complaint did you have, and what did you do to resolve it? If you didn't do anything, do it this week. Make sure you both get something out of the resolution. Have the relationship move forward powerfully.

THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK: Go back over the last three weeks of Secrets and re-do the homework, but this time with a real commitment to create something special for your life, and for the lives of others around you.

Please take a minute and let me know how you're doing out there. How have these tips been helping you?
