| The Difference Between a Dream and a Goal |
|
It's been several months since the new year began.
How are those New Year's Resolutions coming? (Or not!)
Most people couch their desires with phrases like, "I want to lose weight," or "I want to make more money," or "I want to have a better relationship with my spouse."
Although well-intentioned, these are dreams that probably won't be realized.
Why not? Because the human mind doesn't respond well to generalities. Or, more bluntly, dreams are more likely to be chased than achieved.
What makes a difference is to turn your dreams into goals by making them S.M.A.R.T.:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Realistic
- Time-Sensitive

LAST WEEK'S HOMEWORK: Did you write down your questions on a 3" x 5" card and look at them throughout the week? Did they make a difference? If you didn't do your homework, go back to last week's Sales Secret and do it! Those questions are some of the "keys to the kingdom" to successful sales careers.
THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK: Catch yourself talking in generalities this week. In other words, listen to yourself saying things like: "We'll have to get together sometime," "I'll call you soon," and "We believe our product/service/solution is superior to others that you'll find out there." But for now, just notice what you're saying and notice what people say in response.
Please take a minute and let me know how you're doing out there. Have these tips been helping you? |
