  • Newsletter Archive:
  • October 23rd Newsletter - Campaign Update
  • Ciro Rodriguez's widely discredited campaign ads accusing Bexar County Commissioner Lyle Larson of wanting to raise taxes have earned Rodriguez a place in the Americans for Fair Taxation "Hall of Shame."
  • October 20th Newsletter - Campaign Update
  • Ciro Rodriguez and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) are still at it. Along with spending over $1 million in their effort to keep Ciro in this seat, the DCCC is using the same ad in 6 other congressional races, attempting to divert attention from the fact that Rodriguez and other Democrat candidates want to raise taxes.
  • October 14th Newsletter - San Antonio Express-News Endorses Larson!
  • "Lyle Larson: The Clear Choice" -- Our Choice for the 23 District of Texas
  • October 13th Newsletter - On Taxes
  • My record on taxes speaks for itself. As a Bexar County Commissioner, I led the Commissioners Court to cut the tax rate 7 times in 12 years and led the fight to freeze taxes for seniors. I voted against and refused every pay raise authorized by the Court, saving taxpayers over $300,000.

I will vote to make permanent the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that are set to expire in 2010. Ciro Rodriguez voted repeatedly to block consideration of a bill that would make permanent the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts on income, marriage penalty, child tax credit, investments and death tax (House Roll Calls 186,192,194, 04/16/2008).
  • October 6th Newsletter - Campaign Update
  • We had a great weekend reaching voters all across the district -- block walking, hosting meet and greets, attending barbeques and church services. Join our Team Larson now to help us win back the 23d!
  • September 30th Newsletter - Winning The Seat Back!
  • While our campaign continues to share our message of providing solutions and ending reckless spending, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Ciro Rodriguez continue to spread mistruths and distort my positions on the issues. Though Rodriguez has endless financial support from Political Action Committees and special interests to fund his media campaign, I am proud that my campaign is being financed primarily by individual voters and will be won because of our unbelievable grassroots organization.
  • September 24th Newsletter - Enough Is Enough
  • Congress continues their attempt to manipulate the free market. After approving a $165 billion stimulus package and a $41 billion mortgage bailout, Congress is planning to spend $700 billion of our tax dollars on another bailout bill. Not only are they choosing to spend over $900 billion of our money, they are doing so with the understanding that we as a country have a $10.3 trillion national debt and over $400 billion budget shortfall.
  • September 22nd Newsletter - Campaign Update
  • The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), in conjunction with Ciro Rodriguez has sent multiple mailers asserting that I support a 23% tax increase. The mailers refer to an excerpt of the Issues page of my campaign website which discusses my support for the simplification of the tax code.
  • September 11th Newsletter - Campaign Update
  • While Congress continues to spend without restraint, they also continue to raise their own pay. Since his election in 1997, Ciro Rodriguez has accepted $154,700 in pay raises. Why would we give anyone in Congress a pay raise while they are attempting to bankrupt our country? Congress needs to end reckless spending and we must restore fiscal discipline in Washington.
  • September 9th Newsletter - The Republican Ticket
  • Now that the Republican Convention has concluded and just 55 days remain until the election, we have really begun to see the momentum building. It is clear that folks across the nation are excited by Senator McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President and the ability they have to elect folks who will change Washington.
  • September 3 Newsletter - Term LImits
  • At nearly every campaign event I attend, voters express their frustration and disgust with Congress's wasteful spending and inability to address issues. Many voters are looking for a way to end the political stalemate. My campaign's answer to this problem is term limits.
  • August 25 Newsletter - On the Campaign Trail
  • Over the course of the last few weeks, the Lyle Larson for Congress Team has been actively campaigning across the district. We spent a week traveling through the western part of the district and received substantial turnouts at events held in Bracketville, Del Rio, Alpine, Fort Davis, Fort Stockton, and Marfa. Last week, we hosted a very well-attended event in Hondo for more than one hundred motivated and excited Medina County voters. Back in San Antonio, we held a barbecue at the Larson Headquarters for our volunteers and neighborhood leaders to discuss how we will win this campaign. On Sunday, August 24th, we met with thousands of voters in Castroville at the St. Louis Day Festival.
  • July 29 Newsletter - Mortgage Bailout
  • With deficit spending at an all time high, committing billions of dollars to a mortgage bailout is irresponsible. The increase in deficit spending will continue to weaken the value of the American dollar, which will have an adverse affect on the economy in the coming years.
  • July 22 Newsletter - Military Installations in South Texas - Protecting Camp Bullis & Laughlin AFB
  • Camp Bullis, located along the IH-10 corridor, is one of our military's premier medical training facilities in the nation. Due to development around Camp Bullis, illumination from various buildings during the nighttime hours is compromising the mission, making much of the training difficult.
  • July 17 Newsletter - Congress Fails To Move & Townhall Meetings
  • This week, President Bush lifted the executive order prohibiting offshore drilling, indicating that it is time for Congress to act. Unfortunately, Congress has not yet chosen to move toward a solution to $4 per gallon gas.
  • July 11 Newsletter - Campaign Finances and Photo Galleries
  • After a strong quarter of fundraising and campaigning throughout the district, we are proud to report having raised approximately $535,000 since January 2nd, 2008.
  • June 20, 2008 - Energy Policy
  • With gas prices approaching $4 per gallon and continuing to rise with no relief in sight, it is unacceptable that Congress has failed to address the energy crisis America is facing.
  • May 5, 2008 - On the Campaign Trail
  • While the state of the economy is on the forefront of the minds of residents of the 23rd, it is clear that our region wants a Congressman who will facilitate job creation and retention, build and maintain infrastructure, and bolster the overall economy.
  • February 26, 2008 - Immigration & the Border and NRA Endorsement
  • Candidate Lyle Larson has a multi- faceted approach to addressing the issues of border security and illegal immigration. He has been a proponent of expanding Operation Streamline along the entire stretch of the US/Mexican border and ending the practice of catching and releasing illegals other than Mexicans (OTM's). He will not support amnesty for anyone who has entered the United States illegally.
  • February 22, 2008 - Platform Issues
  • Lyle Larson is proud to present his "platform" for your consideration. The Campaign is confident that his platform best represents the constituents of Congressional District 23 and it encourages you to go out and vote for Lyle Larson now!
  • February 8, 2008 - Base Realignment and Closure
  • The military employs 100,000 people in Bexar County and has an $11.1 billion economic impact. As Chairman of the San Antonio Military Transformation Task Force, Lyle Larson led the effort to protect Bexar County's largest employer. The result -- San Antonio will become the home of military medicine in the world adding 11,000 new jobs and over $2 billion dollars in construction.
  • February 5, 2008 - Pro-Life -- Adoption
  • Candidate Lyle Larson believes strongly in core Texas values - encouraging personal responsibility, compassion for others, and supporting families. He believes that strong families are the foundation for a prosperous society, and that a compassionate government recognizes their importance in fostering successful communities, happier homes, and healthier lives.
  • January 22, 2008 - Creating Jobs and Protecting the Economy
  • During his 16 years in public office, San Antonio and Bexar County experienced unprecedented growth and prosperity. According to some estimates, 31,619 new jobs were created in Bexar County between 1997 and 2007. Commissioner Larson is proud to say that the aggressive economic development policies he helped implement created these high-paying jobs. Just a few of the companies that have chosen to locate or expand in San Antonio and Bexar county are: Toyota, AT&T, Boeing, Washington Mutual and Microsoft.
  • January 17, 2008 - On the Issues
  • In an exclusive interview following his announcement of his intentions to challenge U.S. Congressman Ciro Rodriguez for the 23rd District seat, Bexar County Commissioner Lyle Larson was interviewed about some of the key issues for this election, including encroachment around military installations like Laughlin Air Force Base, immigration, "The Wall", Iraq, the economy and health care.
