Mission Possible | |
Two of our Union moms, Debbie Stein and Staci James, sponsor a club called "Mission Possible" for our Union girls in grades 5th-8th. Each of the girls is paired with a "sister". They meet once a month to have a devotional, pray, eat together, do crafts, and perform community service projects. It's a great way for our junior high girls to develop closer friendships amongst each other and draw closer to God!
The pictures below are from the Mission Possible Valentine's Day party. The girls had a great time of fellowship with their "sisters"!

8th Grade Montage Assignment
Creativity and Introspection at Work! | |

Ms. Birch's 8th grade classes created montages of their lives last week. The students were instructed to use their own image and images of things, persons, objects, words, etc. that are in some way significant to them. The goal was to reveal something about who they are and what they care about in the areas of student, family, and community life. This assignment provided a great avenue for students to exhibit some creativity while allowing them to think critically about what is most important to them as individuals!

from the desk of Mrs. Chavis...
Advanced Placement testing fees are now due. The fee for each exam is $87 and should be given to Mrs. Chavis by March 15th. Make checks payable to Union Christian Academy and on the memo line name the test(s).
Next week, students will bring home their proposed schedules for next year. Parents and students are to discuss the options, sign the form and return it to their homeroom teacher on Monday, March 12. If there are questions, students and/or parents may meet with Mrs. Chavis. This is a necessary process to be able to construct a schedule for next year. Students received a handout listing graduation requirements and various rules and recommendations regarding courses.
Cadet Jones from the United States Military Academy (West Point) will be on campus March 14th during B lunch in the conference room to talk to any students who may be interested in attending a military academy. As a cadet, he can give the "real nuts and bolts" of life as a cadet. Bring your lunch and visit with him.
Congressman Steve Womack is hosting "Academy Days 2012" across the third congressional district. One of these events will be held in Fort Smith on Saturday, April 7th, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the 188th Fighter Wing, Civil Engineering Complex, Building #450. Junior and senior high students and their parents are encouraged to attend if they wish to have insight about the selection process and requirements. ROTC representatives from UAFS and Arkansas Tech will also be present.
At Parent/Teacher Conference night, Mrs. Chavis will explain score reports and test scores for the PSAT, PLAN, and EXPLORE tests beginning at 5:30 in the conference room. Please see times below.
EXPLORE (8th) - 5:30
PLAN (10th)- 6:00
PSAT (11th and some 10th)-6:30.
A short presentation will help you understand the test results and how you can use them to benefit your child. |
