Greetings!
Independence Day,
Wine Cocktails, & Txakolifest 2012!
This Saturday (June 30th), we are very pleased to present to you our annual Independence Day Wine Cocktail tasting! This Durham-wide renowned event is delicious, fun, and proven to help spur your creativity in making something refreshing to drink this weekend before you begin blowing stuff up with M-80's and cherry bombs. This year's excellent lineup is as follows:
- The Kopke White Port cocktail
- The Official Wine Authorities Red Sangria featuring Tempranillo & Cava
- The Original Cocchi Americano Cocktail
- The Duke of Marlborough featuring Fino Sherry, Red Vermouth, and classic orange bitters.
We're also very happy to introduce to you a most quintessential quinine tonic, and while we're not necessarily at liberty to discuss its value as an elixir, we can (and do!) insist that Jack Rudy is indeed very good for your cocktail! Find it among our aromatized wines and get a better look at it during this Saturday's free tasting.
~~~~ Closed July 4th
 We'll be closed on Wednesday, July 4th, so make sure to stock up now!
~~~~ Txakolifest 2012 Tickets now available! JULY 21st at SIX PLATES
The Various calling cards of summer keep mounting up, and yet another seasonal milestone looms on the horizon - Txakolifest! Yes, it's the one day a year that Durham breaks out its secret stash of porrons and is transformed into a an unlikely sister city to San Sebastián complete with spritzy Basque wine, oysters, and tapas. Each year this is one of the great celebrations in town, and it's become the largest TxakoliFest in the United States. There will be two reserved sessions, The first (1:00 - 4:00) and the second (4:00 - 7:00) where guests will be given a Txakoli/Sidra glass upon admittance and have at their disposal the ability to order a vast sea of Txakoli and small plates specially chosen to go with the wine. Of course there will be live music and much revelry. This event sells out every year, so get your tickets ASAP at Wine Authorities (cash only) or Six Plates (both cash and credit cards accepted). As usual, we will be kicking off the festivities with our FREE Saturday tasting of several Txakoli from 12-3:00 to get you primed for the party and brushed up on your porron wielding skills (see photo above).

Tasty Tuesday
From Washington,
for Washington!
This Tuesday, July 3rd, we present our weekly "Tasty Tuesday" FREE wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 until 6:30, we host this FREE bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day.
On the evening before this year's Independence Day, we're featuring three wines from the state which bears the name of one of our founding fathers and the first president of the United States. This trio includes a lush, vibrant Chardonnay, a deeply colored and intensely refreshing Rosé, and a rich, well rounded Merlot with plenty of character but a lighter constitution that's perfect for the summer. These are great companions for grilling, hanging out with friends, family, and neighbors at parties, or simply taking time to relax by the pool this July 4th.
