Learn to Sail

     Acquire the skill and knowledge to rig and sail a small boat on your own in this 3-week 30-hour hands-on program taught in the classroom and on-the-water. Includes the book Start Sailing Right! Upon completion you will receive the Community Sailing Program Small Boat certification. Must be at least 16 years old to participate. Storytellers of Central Florida

Storytellers of Central Florida logo     With members of all ages and cultures and ranging from novice to professional, the Storytellers of Central Florida are dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of storytelling. If you have stories to share, want to learn storytelling, or simply enjoy listening, you are invited to join us to hear and share polished tellings as well as works in progress.

Writing Your Life Story

Tree of Life b y Tim Parish, 2008     You don't have to be a writer to write your life story. What? That's right!  In this class, we remove the ninth-grade English teacher with the bloody red pen from your shoulder and show you how to have some fun writing the story only you can tell. Learn how to get started, identify topics you wish to write about, create pictures with words, make the people in your life real enough to walk off the page and much more. Get the support and encouragement in this class to write your life story, which will surely be a big hit with your family. No previous writing experience necessary.The class motto is: the only way to do this wrong is to not do it at all!  Limited to 16 participants. Eight pre-paid registered participants required to hold the class.

Establishing a Personal Yoga Practice

     This four-week class will focus on the practice of Yoga Nidra to improve rest and support good sleep through deep relaxation and visualization. Techniques also include discussion, sense awareness, breathing practices, concentration techniques, meditation and stillness. No previous yoga experience required. Please bring a yoga mat to class. Class limited to 10 participants. Six pre-paid registrations required to hold the class.

Prose and Poetry Writing Workshop

Explore why you wish to write and which genres you wish to pursue: poetry, prose, short story, and more. Learn how to get your ideas from imagination into the written form or how to better express what you have written. Limited to 15 participants. Writing Workshops with Patricia Charpentier

 a pen writing on paper    Join in the fun on the third Thursday of every month as we wipe off the dust on long-forgotten memories and commit those moments to paper. We give you prompts designed to trigger memories, and once the thoughts come, you'll have five to ten minutes to begin writing the story surrounding each recollection. You won't likely finish many stories, but that's by design. Getting started writing your life story is one of the most difficult parts of the process, so you'll leave with the beginnings of 10 or more stories you can complete at home. Jump start your creativity, have a good time, meet some wonderful people and begin writing the story only you can tell.

Learn how sentences and paragraphs work and how you can create more varied and interesting ones; how to construct expressive paragraphs, using description and others modes of writing; and to create your own one-page descriptions, stories, or articles and practice analyzing, revising, and editing them. Limited to 18 participants. Pre-paid registration required.

The League of Women Voters will explain what has changed with Florida's election laws, will offer voting tips, and will answer questions about both elections.
