January Newsletter
January 2009, Vol 2, Issue 1 |
Greetings!
Happy New Year to all sjkid members and their families. The New Year is a new beginning. A great time to reflect and think about, what we would like to get done or what we would like to change. In the spirit of change we introduce our new contest: Going Green in 2009. And, after many of us consumed, too much comfort food over the holidays, it is a great time to think about what we eat. See our section on Healthier Eating for some great ideas.
Winter can also be a challenging time in which people find it hard to get out of the house, and stay active and engaged in the community. These are the same challenges those of us at sjkid face. With that in mind we have included article on Keeping Active in Winter and on Fun and Educational Activities.
I hope you all have a good January, getting out there and joining other sjkid families, in fun activities.

Sliding is most kids favourite winter sport. Grab a sled and the kids and head off to your favourite sliding hill. It is tons of fun for the whole family.
The federal government has developed a website for keeping active in winter called WinterActive. It encourages people to stay active and eat healthy during the winter. It has great suggestions and links. Along with a section of provincial events.

| Fun and Educational Activities for Kids |
One of the best way to keep yourself and the kids happy and engaged in the winter, is to get them out of the house and involved in activities with others. Below, you will find programs that are fun, educational and great for making new friends.
The Library offers many great programs for kids, from babies right up to teens.
The FRC and KV3C both offer free playgroups for those under school age. This gives both little ones, parents and caregivers a chance to get out and socialize with peers. These programs offer kids many play-based learning opportunities.
The New Brunswick Museum has many interesting activities. And offers Explorer Saturdays, where the whole family can get special tours, do crafts, etc..
