sjkid has a great new Holiday Contest with a fun prize. To enter, submit your holiday tips and tricks for making Christmas run smoothly here. The winner will recieve a one day family pass to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.  
 
Some examples; would be time saving tips, money saving tips, shopping tips, wrapping tips, how do you get the kids involved, Chrismas preparation tips, etc...

A random draw will take place, so every entry will give you a better chance at winning. The contest ends on December 16th at 11:59pm.

Become Involved in sjkidCo-op
Would you like to make a difference in the local community? Why not become an sjkid volunteer? It is a fun way to meet others and at the same time help other families. There are many ways you can help. You can spread the word about sjkid by passing out information to other families, alert us to activities happening, volunteer to help organize and take part in the upcoming sjkid fair, or serve on the board of directors. To find out more about volunteer oportunities or to volunteer, email info@sjkid.com.

Welcome to our Holiday Newsletter. sjkid is growing fast with new members, joining daily. If you are enjoying sjkid please forward it on to your friends and family.
 
With the holidays approaching, I am sure you are all busy in a whirlwind of parties and preparation. And maybe like some of us at sjkid, you are wondering what you can do to help others? We have included some information on Families Helping Families, to give you some ideas on how to give back. Also, in this issue we have listed some Fun Holiday Activities to take the kids to. And don't forget to check out our New Holiday Contest.   
Families Helping Families
This time of year many sjkid families wonder; how can I give back to others? With 1-6 chldren in New Brunswick living in poverty, it is a wonderful gesture to give back. But, who do you give to and how? We have included a few suggestions here, and have a whole list on sjkid to make it a little easier to give back.
 
Christmas Daddies is a organization whose mandate is to help the less fortunate children in the Maritime provinces have a better Christmas. This years teleathon is December 6th, broadcast on CTV (channel 8), 11am-6pm.

Coats for Kids is sponsored by Acadia Broadcasting - 97.3 The Wave - with the help of McAllister Place Mall and New System Laundry and Cleaners. The coats, hats, mitts, scarves, etc... can be dropped off at the New System Laundry on Waterloo St, & McAllister Place. They will be distributed by the Saint John Boys and Girls Club to those in need.

Cresent Valley Resource Centre Socks and Underwear Drive is looking for donations of new underwear and socks for children between the ages of 2 and 12. Kids and adults sizes are needed, so children of all sizes are accomodated. On December 18th volunteers will take the children carolling in Crescent Valley and invite them back to the resource centre for hot chocolate, tree decorating and donation distrubution. Fun Holiday Activities
Want to get the kids in the holiday spirit? Here are some local Holiday Activities for you to enjoy with kids of all ages:
 
Christmas Ornament Workshop: Try your hand at a 3-d Swedish star, or make a mouse with a candy cane tail? Something for everyone. This is a great time for a family get-together. Refreshments provided. Free! At The Saint John Free Public Library, Market Square, December 4th, 6:30pm
 
The Snow Queen: A winter tale of friendship, love, and adventure for the whole family  Performed by InterAction Children's Theatre's advanced performance company.
December 5th 7pm at the Imperial Theatre. Tickets available at Imperial Box Office 674-4111 

Zoo's Animal Christmas Wonderland: Enjoy a winter walk through your zoo. On the canteen lawn an Outdoor Christmas Play takes place. The play tells the first Christmas story as seen through the eyes of the animals. Regular admission applies. All monies raised goes directly into the animals winter care budget. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies with Santa after each play and kids can make a Christmas craft. December 6th, 7pm at Cherry Brook Zoo.

Hampton Santa Claus Parade: Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Santa Claus Parade, Starts at Hampton Elementary, down Main St, to Hampton High. December 13th, 6pm.

Inroducing Sarah

Sarah is the newest member of our sjkid team. She is the volunteer moderator for our communtiy forumShe works hard, to keep the forum lively and interesting for all sjkid members.
Sarah has 3 sjkids; 11, almost 9 and 3.  Her family moved to Saint John 4.5 years ago from PEI. 
 
From Sarah, "I found it hard to find all the events and activities under one roof and I was thrilled when I heard about Fredkid and that it was expanding into sjkidI've navigated the city looking for resources for three different age groups as well as having a child with learning challenges.  Parenting is not an easy road and I'd like to do what I can to help make the road easier for other parents."   
 
We are glad Sarah has decided to help make things easier and more fun in our forum.
