December Contest
fredkid wants to know how you make the holidays meaningful.  Please submit tips and suggestions on alternative Christmas gifts!  An example might be to help out at the Soup Kitchen Christmas Dinner.  You could win a family pass to Science East!  A great outing for you and your family over the holidays! A random draw will take place, so every entry will give you a better chance at winning. The contest runs until December 20th

Healthy Families, Healthy Communities Association Newsletter
Happy Holidays everyone, from all of us at Healthy Families, Healthy Communities Association. There are many wonderful events happening for families in the city this December.  Many are free events or cost very little.  Take the time to enjoy these events with your children.  Take in a concert, go to a "Free" skate. slide down the hills of Odell Park, or try the "Gingerbread cookie"  recipe below!  Spending time together will create holiday memories that will last a lifetime!

 Gingerbread Cookies!

Ingredients:
4 1/2 cups  all- purpose flour
1 tbsp.  ground cinnamon
2 tsp .ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1 1/4 tsp. baking sods
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup packed brown suger
2 large eggs
3/4 cups molasses
Tubes of white decorator's frosting
Coloured M &M's or skittles

Directions:
1.  Mix flour, cinnamon, ginger, and baking soda: then set aside
2.  In a separate bowl, blend butter & brown sugar.  Add eggs & molasses.  Pour in dry mixture stirring until dough is stiff.
3.  Divide dough in half  and flatten like pancakes.  Cover with plastic wrap, the refrigerate for 2 hrs. Dough should be firm after this.
4.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  On floured surface, roll out dough and use cookie cutters for gingerbread men shapes!  Place on greased cookie sheet and bake for 10 min.
5.  Once baked, let them cool down.  Then you are ready to decorate with icing and candies!  Enjoy your holiday treat!

St. Thomas Singers Christmas concert - The St. Thomas Singers, under the direction of Dr. Willis Noble, present Gloria, a concert of music for the Christmas season.December 1st, 7:30 pm at St Dunstan's Catholic Church. $7.00 for families.

Tree Lighting Ceremony - December 5th, at 8pm at the Legislature building.

Christmas Arts and Crafts Show - At the Capital Exhibit Centre

Free Concert at the Fredericton Public Library -Making Spirits Bright.  Enjoy festive holiday music from around the world

Dance Fredericton Nutcracker Performance- The Nutcracker Suite and Friends has two shows on Saturday, December 8 at 2PM and 7PM at Le Centre Communautaire Sainte-Anne. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for students, and $5 for Dance Fredericton Students.
 
Christmas at the Playhouse - An anticipated annual event.  The Christmas show of Christmas shows! December 18-21.  Visit theplayhouse.ca for tickets and information!

A Christmas Carol - Dufflebag Theatre returns to the Playhouse to perform their hilarious and interactive rendition of the Charles Dickens classic holiday tale, A Christmas Carol. December 28th & 29th . Tickets are $13.00.

Paediatric Lifestyle Management Program
INFORMATION SESSION: JANUARY 14th, 7-9pm, UNB Gym 

Do you have a child between the ages of 5 and 12? Are you concerned with your child's weight and health? 
Over the last four years our comprehensive, evidence-based program has supported many parents and guardians of overweight children in their efforts to raise healthy and active children.  Held at UNB, this 11-week program provides families with the information, guidance and support they need to make healthy lifestyle choices. Our interdisciplinary team of health professionals includes paediatric nurses, registered dieticians, leisure educators, & physical activity consultants.
There is NO COST to participate in the program but space is limited!
Interested in learning more? Attend our information session on Wednesday, January 14th from 7-9pm at UNB's LB Gym in room C210.

KIN KIDS Physical Activity Program for 5 to 12 Years Olds
Registration Deadline: January 15th, 2009 

Looking for an activity program for your child that doesn't require huge sums of money, equipment or time?  KIN KIDS is a physical activity program designed to engage children ages 5 to 12 in the simple pleasures and benefits of regular physical activity.  The focus is on FUN, INTERACTIVE and NON-COMPETITIVE activities.  KIN KIDS is held Mondays & Wednesdays at the UNB gym from 5:30-6:30pm and runs from January 19th to April 1st.  The cost is $60 (includes a cool t-shirt!), but children may participate on only one of the days for a reduced fee.  Financial support is also available for children requiring assistance.
