| Welcome to the first sjkid newsletter!
sjkid is a new website, that provides family with over a 100 pages of information and resources. sjkid also provides a calendar of events, free classifieds, and community forum. We hope to keep families informed, connected to the community and each other. |
| sjkid Launch Party |
On September 29, 2008 sjkid held it's Launch Party at Market Square. Many families in the Greater Saint John Area came out to celebrate. Children enjoyed Crafts, A Magic Show, Build a Fossil, Story Time, Face Painting and Snacks. Parents visited information booths and sipped on coffee.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the following participants; Saint John Free Public Library, New Brunswick Museum. Creative Endeavours Craft Workshop, Talk With Me, District 8 "Celebrate What is Right", District 6 & 8 Transition to School Program, KV3C, Zap Magic, Public Health Early Childhood Initiatives Program. Tim Hortons, Market Square generously donated coffee and tea.

| Halloween Activities |
|
Want to have a fun Halloween? The Greater Saint John Area, offers more than just traditional trick or treating. Here are some events and activities to get you and your family in the spirit.
3rd Annual Scarecrow Trails -For the Month of October scarecrows will be on display along the trails at the arts and culture park in Quispamsis. Some will be classic and some scary.
Ghost tours - October 29th, 7 pm. Departing from Freedom Travel, 80 Charlotte Street. Spooky Ghost Tour will visit many haunted locations around Saint John. Tour guide, David Goss, will entertain, amaze and terrify you with yarns of ghosts as Halloween approaches. 2.5 hour tour on the dark side will explore the Sea Ghosts of the Fundy, the restless souls of the Graveyard Ghosts of Thorne Avenue as well as the tales of the Witch House, the Lady LaTour Ghost and much much more. Come in costume and win a copy of Mr. Goss's newest book, "Saint John Curiosities," as the best dressed spook on the bus. Cost: $29. per person.
Children's Halloween Party - Free kid's party at Lily Lake Interpretation Center, October 31st 10:30am-1pm. Sponsored by Canaport LNG
Trick or Treat at the Mall -Celebrate Halloween in a safe and warm environment at McAllister Place Mall. Trick or Treating for the kids from 5:30-7pm.

| Weekend Fun |
|
Is it a rainy fall weekend and you can't think of anything to do with the kids? Get rid of your cabin fever and get our and try some of these activities and places.
How about a trip to the Library? The libraries in the Greater Saint John Area, have a great selection of books for all ages and activities for kids. Check our Calendar to see what is happening at the library this weekend.
Take the kids to make a craft. Micheals Craft Store runs Knack Saturdays from 10-12. Kids can make a craft for $5 materials included.
You want to keep your book? How about taking the famlily to Indigo Book Store. They have a terrific play area for the kids and coffee shop on site for the grown-ups. Indigo also offers a story time and craft time on Saturdays.

Catherine is the sjkid site administrator. She was an educational researcher in Montreal, before deciding to bring her family back to her home town of Saint John. She has a graduate degree in education. Besides, working for sjkid and raising her son, she is a supply teacher with District 8. Her family includes, sjkid Robbie (4) and spouse Karen. HFHCA acknowledges the Greater Saint John Understanding the Early Years (UEY) project in the development of sjkid.com. The UEY initiative, which is funded by Human Resources and Social Development Canada wanted to leave a resource to help connect families to local resources and activities.
