The volunteers of CHEER had the horses looking their best, with braided manes and tails, and super shiny. The equine athletes provided their Special Olympic athletes with steady mounts and superb performance to bring home the ribbons. Each athlete participated in 2 events.
Cody Brown - Ozzie Michael Martin - Axle
Tammy Schlier - Axle
Greg Ortt - Ozzie

ORLANDO CITY SOCCER: GAME AND ATHLETE CLINIC
"Special Olympics Night" Friday, April 22nd at 7:30pm at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, as City Soccer takes on Puerto Rico United. Our athletes and Special Olympics will be highlighted throughout the evening. There are exclusive discounted tickets available for the game which include cool experiences like being part of the pre-game Fan Tunnel (high-five the players as the come on the field) and a post-game photo op/meet and greet with the players.
The best part is that for every ticket purchased, a ticket will be donated to a SOFL athlete! To that end, if you have athletes who would like to attend, here's how it will work:
- Athletes may receive up to 3 tickets per party (athlete, plus 2 guests). Unified Partners are welcome to request tickets as well.
- Athletes or their coach/chaperon must request tickets by emailing communication@sofl.org by NO LATER THAN Wednesday, April 20th.
Free Soccer Clinic
The clinic will start at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 23rd at a yet to be determined location, but it will be in the downtown/metro Orlando area. The clinic should end by 12:30pm.
The players and coaches of Orlando City will host a free soccer clinic for our athletes and coaches. The clinic is open to all Special Olympics athletes of all ages and skill levels: from athletes who'd like to try their hand (or feet) at soccer for the first time, to skills athletes, to teams. Similarly, coaches of all experience levels are encouraged to participate in the coaches part of the clinic. Athletes/coaches do not have to attend the game the night before in order to enjoy the clinic.
There is no limit to the number of athletes or coaches that can participate, but so that Orlando City can prepare adequately, please have interested athletes/coaches/parents RSVP by emailing communication@sofl.org by NO LATER THAN Wednesday, April 20th.

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Anton Fennel
Basketball and Track & Field
We are so grateful that our wonderful son, Anton, was selected as athlete of the month.
Anton is a happy, friendly, 9 year old who was diagnosed at 2 ½ with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Anton is completing his first year in the Special Olympics program. He participated in basketball and had a great time participating in the state games at Patrick AFB. He enjoys receiving awards and taking pictures. He is currently in track and field and learning a lot of new things. Anton enjoys taking on new challenges and meeting new people.
The Special Olympics program and the dedicated volunteers have been a Blessing us. The volunteers and coaches are patient and supportive. Anton now has the opportunity to play sports, as well as, have meaningful social experiences, as children on the spectrum lack social reciprocity.
We excited about participating in the upcoming sport sessions.
We sincerely thank everyone involved in the Seminole County Special Olympics and for being there for the special needs population.
Kim, Anthony & Anton Fennell

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Phillip Deal

After moving to Central Florida in 2007, our family was excited to see the wide variety of Special Olympics sports available to our son, Zachary, in Seminole County. Zach had a great experience during his first sport of skills basketball. From there, Zach got involved in athletics, swimming and bowling. With each new sport, the different coaches and athletes were very accepting of Zach and always encouraged him to do his best.
After attending practices and competitions with Zachary and the other Special Olympians, the athletes become part of your extended family. You care about each of them as a person and want to help them do their best. You witness the good sportmanship between the athletes and share in their achievements. I started participating in Special Olympics because Zach had so much fun at practices and competitions but I help as a volunteer because of the warmth and friendship of the extraodinary athletes, parents and coaches in the Seminole County Special Olympics program.

Special Olympics Seminole County relies greatly on assistance from Sponsors. They are always in need, not only to provide financial help, but to offer safe and productive training facilities to our athletes. Without the generous donations of many organizations, our athletes would not have the facilities, equipment, volunteers or funds to train and compete on a year-round basis for free. We all appreciate everyone's support!
