| Over the years many recruiters have become overly dependent on the big job boards. I by no means am saying they aren't a great recruiting tool, because they are. All in all, they have done an excellent job in training applicants to post their information so the right person will find them for the right job. But have we become a little too confident that the right talent is waiting to be found on a job board, and not already sitting in our own database? Is money being spent each month that may not need to be?
I am often surprised to find out how many staffing companies do not search their own database first when attempting to fill a job. I've heard many reasons, and some could be considered valid and some not so valid.
- I know everyone who has applied here. Really? You never take a day off and you personally enter each and every application? That's efficient for sure!
- I can't find what I'm looking for in my database. Could it be that you need a refresher on how to search? Click here.. help is available!
- Candidates in our database are too old and not looking for a job any more. Why do you still have them active in your database? Why are they appearing on a search?
Bottom line, your database should be your first plan of attack when searching candidates for open orders. Sure, you aren't always going to find what you need and that's the time you should go out and use all available resources for your recruiting efforts. However, if you find what you need, not only are you saving money but also using resources already available and interested in working for your organization.
