HIGHER SPEED ETHERNET PLUGFEST WHITE PAPER
The Ethernet Alliance has announced the summary results of the Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) subcommittee interoperability plugfest for products designed to support IEEE Std. 802.3baTM-2010, 40 and 100 Gbps Ethernet.  Fourteen Ethernet Alliance members including Berk-Tek Systems (a Nexans Company), Broadcom, Brocade, Extreme Networks, Ixia, JDSU, Juniper Networks, Mellanox Technologies, Opnext, Panduit, Siemon, Spirent Communications, TE Connectivity (TE - formerly Tyco Electronics) and Volex Group plc gathered at the UNH-IOL, the Interoperability Lab at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire during the week of April 18th to verify the interoperability of test equipment, switches, routers, NICs, transceivers and cabling supporting 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet. Substantial success was achieved for interoperability between transceivers, cables and systems tested.

CARRIER ETHERNET WORLD
Ethernet Alliance is participating in two different panel sessions at Carrier Ethernet World Congress, October 10-13th, in Amsterdam, Netherlands at the Hotel Okura. The sessions are:
  • Session 4: WDM Service Evolution: 100G, TERABIT and Beyond will be represented by JDSU.
  • Closing Plenary: Delivering Next Generation Networks with Carrier Ethernet with be represented by ADVA Optical.

Both sessions will take place on October 13th.  Please join us for these sessions and support our fellow member companies!

ECOC 2011

This CFI is for panel slots ECOC in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday, September 19th.  There are four panel positions open on each panel.  Please respond with the contact information of your potential panel participant and specify which panel your company is interested in.  If you are interested in both panels, please name them in order of preference.  Deadline for submission: Thursday, July 28th, 2011. Please e-mail: [email protected] or [email protected]

New Ethernet Optics Drive New Test Requirements
With 100G products now becoming a reality, client interfaces based on CFP optics are appearing on routers, switches, and transport equipment. Although the technology is maturing, the complexity and performance of pluggable optics remains challenging and is compounded by the relative short supply and high cost of the CFPs. Traditionally, Ethernet optics have been reliable components, but the increased technical complexity of 100G optics requires testing and screening them both during the vendor selection and production. This discussion introduces CFP optics and highlights the tests and measurements required to validate them.

Opnext, moderator: Kapil Shrikhande, Force10 Networks
Next Gen 100G Ethernet Optical Interconnects and Module Form Factors
This presentation would discuss latest developments in 100GbE optical interconnector technologies, new module form factors for high port density application and emerging standards.

NEXT GENERATION ENTERPRISE CABLING SUBCOMMITTEE
The Next Generation Enterprise Cabling subcommittee continues to explore various ideas and thoughts exchanged during the Summer TEF. The group plans to focus on discussing the potential impacts of 25Gb/s lane speed on cabling and the future of next generation BASE-T cabling in the near term.

If you would like to contribute your knowledge or create a presentation regarding one or both of these topics, please contact [email protected].
