Quick tip
| It is melon season! If you get a mushy watermelon and don't want to eat it, blend it!
Just put any melon in the blender, add nothing else. You will have a delicious, cleansing and hydrating energy drink!
You will find that watermelons are refreshing, and cantaloupe have a nice milky flavor.
I make these drinks when I am really short on time, and the melon really fills me up.
Blend in some ice for a
really refreshing rawktail!

Matt Monarch & Angela Stokes visit Oakland
|
It was so much fun to have Matt Monarch and Angela Stokes of the Raw Food World visit this week.
Heather and Bashir with Matt and Angela | We had more than 120 people come out for the event, the largest gathering of raw food enthusiasts I have seen in the Bay Area. This was thanks to strong teamwork between Cafe Gratitude, four different raw meet up groups around the Bay Area, Thrivin' Edibles and many more friends.
It seemed that people loved the event. Comments on the Oakland Raw Meet-Up board include:"I was looking for more anecdotal evidence that raw food is the right
path for me, and Matthew delivered. I was particularly intrigued by his
spiritual observations." and "great time - excellent lecture, I especially enjoyed Angela's practical,
organized approach to things and of course Matt's emphasis on colonics!
thanks guys!"
We filmed that evening, and you can watch the entire program right here.
For me, there were so many highlights in addition to the incredible inspiration and information that Matt & Angela provided. They included:
- Filming this fun video about how to juggle relationships when you are raw and your partner isn't.
- Chef Patti Searle, with whom I recently started a food to-go business, completely sold out of all her food.
 - There were so many great volunteers that helped the event move very smoothly. Big thanks to them! I am so honored to be able to work with all of these wonderful people.
- Waving good-bye to Matt and Angela the next day as they took off in their white Mustang convertible rental car. What a hot couple in their hot rod!

Leavin' on a Jet Plane
|
Tomorrow morning before the sun rises, I will be heading to the Middle East. Bashir and I are going to Palestine to check out the olive harvest, and hopefully bring back some of the yummy fair trade olive oil that so many of you have come to loveOur Holy Land Olive Oil | .
We will be gone for three weeks. As usual, I am carrying more food and yoga props than I am clothes.
How does one travel in the raw?
For the plane I recommend:
- Resuable bamboo eating utensils
- Yogurt and granola for breakfast. I love the Rawnola from the Raw Food World and Thrive Holistic's Cranberry-Citrus Granola
- An unopened bag of kale chips with a kale salad I made for lunch.
- Nut cheese and crackers for snacks
- Dehydrated vegetables with seasoning, so when I get hungry I can add hot water and make a nice soup.
- Sprouts - I have fresh pea sprouts that are ready to eat. Plus, clover and alfalfa growing in a nut milk bag. They grow fine on the plane.
- Mila
In the luggage I recommend:
- A couple nut milk bags for making milk and juice
- A large bag of almonds and some vanilla powder
- Seasoned seeds and nuts, rawnola bars and other snacks
- Resuable bamboo utensils and tomato sharks for gifts
- Lots of green powders - Vitamineral Green, AFA, greener grasses, etc.
- Other high health things like Hemp Seed Protein, Chia for morning pudding, digestive enzymes, MSM, DHLA, Kefir packets
- A handheld blender, with electricity adapters.
- Anything you need for your first few meals. For us that includes: nuts, raisins, lemons, high-quality salt and buckwheaties. Produce I will easily pick up once we land.
