Green Smoothie Tip
|

My top 5 favorite greens for green smoothies are:
- Parsley - flat leaf
- Spinach
- Fava greens - leaves from the fava bean plant
- Wild weeds like dandelion and lambsquarter. As my friend Peggy Hong says, if you can't beat 'em then EAT THEM.
- Kale

Greetings,Heather in her home classroom | Do you want to eat more raw foods, but need help getting your kitchen organized? Here are 5 tips to make raw food easier: - Select one - two days every week that you will spend a few hours on food preparation. On those days, make your staples: a pate, a
sauce/dip, sprouts
and a
salad dressing. You have lots of sauce/dip options including
guacamole,
salsa, mock peanut, marinara, and pesto. Your dressings could include thousand island, ranch, miso, tahini, or even tomato-basil.
- Once a month
make your dehydrated staples
such as crackers, tortillas, pizza crusts, fruit leather, chips,
cookies, cereal/granola, energy bars.
-
Have
staple vegetables always on
hand: sprouts, kale,
spinach, parsley, bell pepper, lemon, zucchini, smoothie fruits and
avocados.
- Ripen
your fruit before eating so that it is at the peak of sweetness.
These ripen at home on the counter: pepper, banana, kiwi, tomato,
avocado, limes, stone fruit, mango, pear, and papaya.
-
Learn
easy recipes that you love,
especially for the basics above. You will find that with wonderful
recipes, you will look forward to making good food choices. Great
recipes are particularly useful when you will be with eaters of
cooked foods so you can remain sociable, eat healthfully and spread
good habits by example. If you cannot come to a class to learn recipes, check out the hundreds of raw food cookbooks available in the bookstores. My favorite cookbooks are by Jenny Cornbleet and Cherie Soria.
Buon Appetite,

Coming Up Soon
|
| Do you understand the nutrition of raw foods? Interested in simple steps to get started? Join me for a FREE "Why Raw?" class tomorrow night 7 - 8 pm at the Whole Foods / Cafe Gratitude in Oakland. Handouts and snacks included.
Start off your day right with a truly nutritious breakfast. Breakfast and Brunches, my second class ever in San Rafael is tomorrow morning from 8 - 10:30. Studies including this one demonstrate that children develop their food preferences as
they grow and are exposed to a variety of food items, textures, taste
and flavours. They learn from modeling in the family from parents and siblings and it starts with breakfast. Revamp your food choices and it will affect your children too! Click here for info on the class.
This month will will go on a virtual trip to Asia, with an Asian Fusion class. We will learn how to make wraps of all kinds, and a dessert that is truly Ambrosia. Then we will come back to the state for American Comfort Foods. Think "burgers", ketchup, cobbler and more for to rev up your July 4th party plans. You can find dates and details here.
June 3rd, 4th and 7th I will be teaching at the Whole Foods in Portland, Oregon. June 10 - 12th I will be teaching several more classes at the Whole Foods in Seattle Washington. If you are
