Mantras

A practice group for the chanting of mantras in Irdin. This work comes through the teachings of Jose Trigueirinho. Irdin is a sacred language, not for conversation. Its sounds have the power to help shape the etheric structure needed for the action of the evolutionary energies that work in the cosmos. The practice carries with it the qualities of devotion, silence and service.

heart"I suspect we all shut down from to time, particularly when we feel emotionally raw and exposed. But the minute we close ourselves off from other people may be two minutes before a life-changing connection or experience.

So I propose a challenge, for me and for you: keep your heart open a little longer than you're tempted to today. Stay accessible, for even just a few minutes more than you ordinarily would. Keep engaging, even if you've shared a lot. Keep listening, even if you heard a lot. Let yourself linger in that vulnerably open place. Sometimes we learn and gain the most from the moments that are the most uncomfortable."

Greetings,

February is American Heart Month: a time to take stock of the health of our heart. As we eat a more heart-smart diet and include more exercise in our busy schedule, we also consider our heart center and its capacity to love. Exercising our ability to keep our heart open helps us become more loving and compassionate in a time when these attributes certainly are needed.

Here at Light of Christ Community Church, our hearts and doors are open to all who want to enter. February begins with a Sparrow Hawk Village community member encouraging us to consider our perceptions. Next, we softly explore our inner world and connection with Spirit through the written and spoken words of poetry and song.

Transfiguration Sunday, we may be blinded by the Light as we consciously begin the process of moving into the Fire Mysteries and prepare to enter the Lenten Season. The first Sunday of Lent explores the role of those temptations in our lives, using the teachings of Master Jesus and other ancient scriptures.

Sparrow Hawk Villagers are enjoying an unusually warm winter so far, as Sancta Sophia prepares for students to arrive next month. However, 2012 classes have already begun! Two successful online courses, "Seeking Sophia," with Dean Susan Hamilton, and  "Wisdom of 2012: the Grace of Chaos," with Rev. Mary Jane Dicus, brought many people together from their homes across the nation in an interactive format that is fun and easy to use. Two more online classes begin this month: "Homiletics" and "Judeo-Christian Scripture," both taught by Susan Hamilton and required for certain programs of study. "Tantra Yoga," a discussion of our interwoven Oneness, begins early in March with Donna Mitchell-Moniak.

The 2012 Sancta Sophia Course Catalog is now available online and in print. Click the link above to go to the Course Catalog page of our website where you'll find the catalog. Please also check out this month's activities at LCCC, which you'll find listed in the left side bar of this newsletter.

We bless all open hearts as we "linger in that vulnerably open place" to learn and love and grow together during this month of the heart.

Blessings,
All the ministers at Light of Christ Community Church

Community Sunday

"Are You Wearing Sun Glasses?"

Lois Fladie, Community Guest Speaker

Lois FladieAre you wearing sunglasses? Come consider our perceptions as we go through life. How do they influence us; where did they come from; and are we ready to take off the glasses to see a new view? Woo--What is possible? Let's explore as we move into the new energies.

Rev. Sue Van Dyke

Rev. Sue Van DykeThe growth of Poetry Slams has become a worldwide phenomenon with competitions occurring across the globe. Poetry speaks to our hearts and minds with its eloquence of expression, brevity of words, imagery, and lofty thoughts. As we progress in years, the sound of a door closing quietly tends to outweigh our urge to slam it. Join us as we softly explore our inner world and connection with Spirit through the written and spoken words of poetry and song.

Transfiguration Sunday

"Blinded by the Light"

Pastor Retha Banez

Rev. Retha Banez

Transfiguration Sunday brings us to the close of the Epiphany season in the church year. At this time we consciously begin the process of moving into the Fire Mysteries as we prepare to enter the Lenten Season. Peter, James, and John went up to the mountaintop with Christ Jesus. There, they were raised in consciousness and witnessed the mystery of the transfiguration. Matthew writes, "He was transfigured before them. And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow." On this Sunday, we will explore the esoteric relevance of this event and its meaning in our lives also expressed through music.

First Sunday of Lent

"Lent: A Time for Reflection"

 Rev. Steven Chase

Steven ChaseThis First Sunday of Lent is the time to focus on the temptations that pull us off the spiritual path. How do we recognize the distractions from the trials and tests that are our true opportunities for growth? Today's lesson will look at this challenging time using the teachings of Master Jesus and other ancient scriptures.

February 2

Prayer Shawl Group, First Thursday,

Helena Messenger's Home, 6:00 p.m.

For comfort, the Prayer Shawl Group still sponsored by LCCC, has decided to hold their monthly gathering in Helena Messenger's home at a new time. The group meets to knit and crochet shawls and lap blankets with prayers, love and good wishes for those who would benefit from these comforting items.

Once a year on Thanksgiving Sunday, the Sunday before Thanksgiving, they bring these items to church to bless them in a special ritual during the church service. As their service work, the shawls and lap blankets are then delivered to nursing homes, oncology units and other locations in need.

All are welcome to join them, including beginners and advanced needle workers. They are interested in teaching those who wish to learn to crochet or knit.

February 2

Blessings of the Cosmos Group,

Sanctuary, 6:30 p.m.

Pastor Retha Banez invites all who would like to participate in a monthly group called "Blessings of the Cosmos," based on the Neil Douglas-Klotz Aramaic work highlighting nearly two dozen of Jesus' most powerful benedictions. His book reminds us that each one is a promise that "every person might become a son or daughter of God, living in wisdom and compassion, as Jesus did." Join Pastor Banez as she leads us through one of these powerful blessings each time we meet accompanied by a beautiful, guided body prayer. We are also working with and practicing the Aramaic Lord's Prayer.

Book Study Group

The Different Drum: Community Making and Peace,

Bookstore, 7:00 p.m.

LCCC is sponsoring an ongoing book study group to be facilitated by various members. The first book study to be led by Hanna Vessey is on M. Scott Peck's, "The Different Drum: Community Making and Peace."  The group will meet twice a month in our village bookstore, Sophia's Nest, for about one hour. Group members are asked to meet at least once per month. The dates chosen to discuss the first book are Tuesday, January 10 - Part I at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28 - Part II at 10:00 a.m., and Tuesday, February 7 - Part III at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in participating, please contact Isaac Porter at bookstore@sanctasophia.org to order a copy of the book.

February 14

(Cancelled - Valentine's Day)

Monthly Wellness Center Healing Circle, Second Tuesday,

Wellness Center, 6:30 p.m.

The Sparrow Hawk healers are hosting a monthly healing circle in the Wellness Center. Different healers will plan a new healing modality each month providing diverse experiences. All are welcome, so please join us.

February 16

Monthly Toning Healing Circle, Third Thursday,

Sanctuary, 6:30 p.m.

Those who participate in the toning circle come together for the purpose of experiencing the vibrational qualities of our crystal toning bowls, the healing power of chanting and the haunting sound of the free notes. Participants can choose to surround themselves with the energy of one individual toning device, or experience them all at once. Most importantly, the presence of each individual adds to the power of the group. All are invited to join in this experience.

February 26

Orin Meditation Group, Fourth Sunday,

Sanctuary, 1:00 p.m.

Join the meditation group that holds short group meditations guided by channeled visualizations and meditation from the Orin material. Rev. Maggie Webb Adams-Karjens from Iowa introduced this material to seven village folks about two years ago. The group believes these meditations have drawn the attention of those [in body and in spirit] who are in alignment with the higher plan by attracting people, resources and those with a servant heart to assist the journey of Light of Christ Community Church, Sancta Sophia Seminary and Sparrow Hawk Village.

If you are interested in meditating with a group of like-minded individuals, to add your positive energies to the healing and restoration of all levels of consciousness, humanity, Mother Earth and the solar systems beyond us -- come join us in body or in spirit. We welcome all to unite in our efforts to send out a positive, healing vibration into the ethers.

Book Study Group

Spiral Dynamics: Mastering Values, Leadership & Change,

Bookstore - Next four meeting dates and times to be determined.

LCCC is sponsoring an ongoing book study group to be facilitated by various members. The next  book is: Spiral Dynamics: Mastering Values, Leadership & Change (1996), by Don Edward Beck, and Christopher C. Cowan. Jerry Vind will be the Group Facilitator. We plan to meet four times to discuss this book.

Don Beck, Ph.D., has been designing and implementing transformational practices for over thirty years. Spiral DynamicsTM presents Beck's unique values-based model that charts the evolution and emergence of human nature a bio-psycho-social map of living human systems that focuses on natural designs; a map that provides holistic and integral solutions.

Spiral Dynamics advances the principle that human nature is not fixed; and when pressured by circumstances, humans are able to adapt to their environment by constructing new, more complex, conceptual models of the world that allow them to handle the new problems.

According to Beck and Cowan, these conceptual models are organized around so-called vMemes: systems of core values or collective intelligences, applicable to both individuals and entire cultures. In spiral dynamics, the term vMeme is used to refer to a core value system, acting as an organizing principle, that expresses itself through memes (self-propagating ideas, habits, or cultural practices). The letter v indicates these are not basic memes but value systems that include them. Each person/culture embodies a mixture of the value patterns, with varying degrees of intensity in each.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Isaac Porter at bookstore@sanctasophia.org to order a copy of the book.

The Celestial Hierarchy of Aquarius

Aquarius by Johfra
Aquarius by Johfra

The hierarchy of the Angels rules from January 20 to February 19, 2012 at 12:17 a.m. Central. This angelic, or devic, evolution parallels the evolution of humanity. Imagine humanity and angels as cousins, and consider the close relationship this promises for the coming Aquarian age. Lord Christ is the Teacher and Master of Humanity and of Angels.

As we enter the Age of Aquarius, humanity will increase its awareness of the angels, or the devic kingdom of nature, for two reasons. First, our unfolding astral senses will perceive life in the subtle planes more readily, and, secondly, as we establish right relationship kingdom to kingdom, humanity and the kingdom of angels will truly become spiritual siblings.

Several important mysteries will unfold upon our planet as we advance. More human beings will balance masculine and feminine energies. This does not mean confusion of sexuality; but rather, positive self-assurance and a balance of heart and mind. As astral currents become more positive and conducive to the co-working of kingdoms, peace on Earth will be possible in a manner that has heretofore been rendered impossible by the pain-filled desire currents and thoughtforms of the last few hundred years. As the astral veil dissolves and immediate imbalances are overcome, peace will descend on Earth.
