New Master of Divinity Degree Now Offered
It was with great excitement on May 5, 2011, that the Board of Governors and Dean Susan C. Hamilton introduced the new Master of Divinity degree now offered at Sancta Sophia Seminary. The degree encompasses 88 credit units, including the esoteric and transformational courses of our current ministerial training program, plus advanced courses in sacred texts, pastoral care, ethics, theology, and interfaith dialogue. A supervised practicum is also required but no thesis is necessary. Greetings from the Dean~
We are looking forward to Annual Conference in November for several reasons. Not only do we have a dynamic speaker to enjoy, but we will have a reunion with so many of our longtime ministers and friends. Additionally, the Board of Governors has much to share with conference attendees regarding the program changes and new adventures planned for 2012.
The highlight of Conference for the seminary is Graduation, which takes place on Friday night. This year we will congratulate and award certificates and degrees to the following:
Certificate in Spiritual Studies: Roseanne Hutchinson, Andy LeVoir, Jay Allen Semmler and Linda Elaine Smith
Certificate as Spiritual Mentor: Patsy Walker Fine and M. Katherine Zakutansky
Certificate in Ministerial Studies: Bridget Bernadette and Loretta Evans West
Master of Divinity: Elizabeth Lerch If you have not registered for Conference, we encourage you to do so -- you won't want to miss it.
See you soon, Susan

ARTICLE: The Birth Chart as a Celestial Message
By Dane Rudhyar
An Address to the 1976 Convention of the American Federation of Astrologers.
Source: khaldea.com
To exist as an individual is to undergo a process of actualization of what, at birth, was mere potentiality. Your chart is the acorn of the oak you can become, within the limits imposed by the conditions prevailing in the biosphere and in your society at that time and during your lifetime. It informs you of the manner in which you can best answer the need of the universe at the time and place you became linked to it -- associated with it -- by your first breath, your first response to an open environment. (The mother's womb is a closed environment; you can only struggle against it.) But once the rhythm of your breathing and the complete circulation of the blood -- through the lungs as well as through the whole body -- is set, you have become an actor on the world stage. You have a role to play in the universe. Your birth chart is the set of information which is given to you so that you can best perform your role. It is your script. There is nothing to change in it, nothing to "rule." The only thing needed is to understand the language in which it is written. . . . Continue reading (from the beginning of the article)

ARTICLE: Introduction to Seeking Sophia
By Rev. Dr. Susan Hamilton
It was while I was attending seminary, in preparation for becoming an ordained minister, that I first was introduced to Sophia. Rev. Carol Parrish had founded a community, church and the seminary which I was attending, all dedicated to the Holy Feminine. The name given to the seminary is Sancta Sophia meaning Holy Wisdom. Little did I know that twenty years later I would become the Dean of the seminary, but then, none of us ever know how and where Spirit will lead us twenty years into the future. Sophia was illusive and mysterious to me in the early 1990's and she's not much more tangible now. How can we ever fully comprehend the Divine Mystery? Having been raised in a Protestant faith tradition, anything resembling a Holy Feminine figure was foreign to me. People who venerated the Virgin Mary were only found in Roman Catholic parishes. Likewise, when I was called to serve as pastor of a mainline Protestant congregation - inclusive as they were - praying to or honoring God the Mother, was not part of our doctrine nor worship style. Yet, . . . Continue reading

Online Class: November 14 - December 19 Seeking Sophia
Rev. Dr. Susan Hamilton
This 6-week course is designed around the concept of Sophia being expressed in four forms. Thirty three lessons focus on the following spheres of Sophia's domain: the Characteristic of wisdom, the Creator of our universe, the reflection of her body in Creation, and as a muse of Creativity. The lessons studied daily or in some other time frame, will expand these spherical definitions all the while leading us inward to a heightened awareness of and connection with our own Source of Wisdom. My hope is that you will have your own experience of Her presence in your life and continue to recognize "Sophianic" moments when they occur. Class meets Mondays, November 14, 21, 28, December 5, 12 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. Central Time. This class is being held via a web-based teleconference service and study materials are posted on Sophia Online, Sancta Sophia's online learning site. You will need a computer to take this class, and a headset is recommended. $50.00 (Includes online text that you can print.)
