Greetings from the Dean~
We are in the full swing of Summer with "toasty warm" days and slightly cooler nights when cicadas sing us to sleep. Floating down the Illinois River is the way some of us renew and cool down at the end of the day. How are you 'keeping your cool' this summer?
Beginning with this issue of SSS News, we are making changes to bring you more news, information, and articles of interest. First of all, please note the feature article on one of our alumni, Rev. Randall Ross. Our graduates are important to us and we want to highlight their special contributions as World Servers. Most recently, I traveled to Minneapolis, MN to attend a ministers' reunion where we recalled our transformative educational journey, shared our current ministry work, and discussed ideas for the seminary's future. It was good to see longtime friends, make new ones, and welcome all to classes on campus.
The Board of Governors has been busy already working on next year's course listing with new class surprises and exceptional teachers. We hope to have the schedule confirmed by Annual Conference time and are excited to share it with you. A hint of new things to come is a conference entitled: "Celebrating Sophia- Within, at Work, and in the World." The conference will take place over the Memorial Day weekend 2012 and include keynote speakers Rev. Dr. Carol Parrish, Rev. Dr. Jann Aldredge-Clanton, and Sister Maureen Fiedler, Sister of Loretto, Ph.D. Feel free to Google each of these amazing women to learn more about their 'Sophianic' work. In the meantime, in this issue are highlights of enriching courses with new emphasis on men's spirituality and the addition of a Yoga weekend with our own Karuna Clark. Hopefully, one of the upcoming courses will be just what you need for Summer sustenance.
Peace, Susan |

July 25 - 29Higher Self Astrology III: Evolutionary AstrologyDennis Acrea
This new course was developed for students who are studying at an intermediate level. Utilizing the signs, houses and planets as well as the techniques of Transits and Progressions, the seeker is ready to explore the specialized topic of Evolutionary Astrology. Our birth chart is our road map to increasing awareness, allowing us to observe the dramas of the ego; absorbing them reflectively; and then distilling them into Wisdom. Multiple techniques for getting in touch with the Soul behind the chart will be introduced and then applied to the charts of famous people and the charts of students who are willing to share them. Students are invited to bring charts of friends and family for study and reflection. Ample time will be given to the application of evolutionary techniques. Prerequisite: Since students are expected to know the basics including the glyphs and key words, there is a prerequisite of both Higher Self Astrology Classes I and II. However, long-time students of Astrology who have not taken Dennis' courses may apply for this class by submitting to the Registrar a description of the classes you have taken and the books you have read; along with your experience in Astrology. Dennis reserves the right to redirect applicants to previous level of study. $250 enrolled seminarians / $275 others Learn more Register for this class

August 4 - 6Thursday - Saturday Spirituality of the Mature Masculine:An Exploration of ArchetypesRev. Mark Throckmorton
Men struggle to find and inhabit a 21st Century masculinity. When women become spiritually opened and empowered, many men fear they are losing the last bastion of traditional male superiority: the "right to rule" that they have learned is granted by God, supported in sacred texts, or bolstered by their long exposure to dichotomies of male-female roles. This class explores the four archetypes of the "Mature Masculine" set forth by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette's King, Warrior, Magician, Lover - outlining the journey into these four "man psychologies" from immature "boy psychologies". This journey can lead men to a masculinity that is powerful, while not controlling; supportive and nurturing, while not passive; and balances, complements, and even energizes the archetypes of feminine spirituality and power. $150 View special flyer for more detailsRegister for this class

Alumni News
Rev. Randall R. Ross (MA '09) serves as Senior Chaplain for Partners in Care Hospice in Bend, Oregon, where he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the spiritual care needs for hospice patients and their families. His passion for helping people to lessen their suffering and assist them in discovering the inner peace in their lives is the driving principle for writing his first book, Leaving with Love: A Hospice Companion Guide (available at Sophia's Nest ). Randy grew up on his family's ranch working as a cowboy and riding the Owyhee desert, tending the cattle herd as his father and forefathers did. The ranch life is where he discovered the essence of his spirituality and the contemplative life which is the foundation of his spiritual work. When Randy's father died in 2001, he was moved to leave what was familiar and follow his inner promptings that called him to serve in a formal spiritual capacity. He committed to a formal spiritual education and training which included a Master of Arts degree from Sancta Sophia Seminary; ordination with Light of Christ Community Church; Master Practitioner status in Neuro-Linguistic Programming; Certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist; a Sedona Method practitioner; and certification in Healing Touch and Reiki. He continues to dedicate his career to writing, speaking, teaching, and counseling to promote healthy life styles, heal past hurts, and help people live in love and peace and explore the infinite possibilities that all human beings have to transform their lives. We are proud to call Randy Ross one of our seminary graduates working in the field of chaplaincy. _____________________________________ " When hiring for hospice chaplaincy, we look at certain important qualifications in order to determine suitable candidates. Some of those requirements are a deep interest in hospice, a broad exposure to and reverence for all religious traditions and proper educational training. These are essential elements for providing appropriate care for our patients and families of varying religious backgrounds."For those interested in pursuing hospice chaplaincy, Sancta Sophia Seminary's educational program gives one the appropriate training while instilling a reverence for all religions." --Rev. Randall R. Ross

August 22 - 27Monday - Saturday, AM & PM Psychography: Healing Memories, Past and Present LifetimesRevs. Helen Weiser and Robert Willson
Developed by the late Rev. Dr. Franklin Loehr, Psychography focuses on healing memories experienced in the present life or in previous ones. Psychography offers a beautiful blend of psychological and spiritual techniques to foster healing. Then with the help of the "inner knower," that part in each human that is all knowing, healing is brought to the circumstances and souls involved. 42 hours CEU: LCSW, LADC, and CADC Note: Counseling week or its equivalent is required to qualify for the Psychography certificate; participants will receive 40 hours of credit towards certification.$650 enrolled seminarians / $700 others Learn moreRegister for this class

Eight Limbed Path of Yoga:An Introduction to the Yoga Sutras of PatanjaliRev. Bettiann Karuna Clark, Ph.D.
More than 2,000 years ago, the Indian sage Patanjali put into writing the oral tradition of yoga. The treatise of the Yoga Sutras provides the framework from which all yoga is practiced. In this experiential workshop, we will explore the first three limbs of the yogic path: 1) Yama (behavioral guidelines) 2) Niyama (spiritual observances) 3) Asana (the physical postures in yoga, and the limb with which most westerners are familiar). This class is appropriate for all levels of yoga practitioners - from the first-time student, to the most experienced one. Please bring your own yoga mat. Shamanic Journeying Workshop
Rev. Maryphyllis Horn
Shamanic Journeying is the safest form of psychic development there is. In this workshop you contact your true angelic guides (spirit guides, power animals, spirit teachers) to ask them for nurturing, emotional and physical healing, protection and detailed guidance. Power animals give you the experience of being healed or provide beneficial end-results of their teaching. Spirit teachers obtain detailed answers from your Akashic Records. You feel and know that the aid is accurate. You gain tools for contacting them on your own at any time you choose, whether for yourself or for others. Successful communication and rapport with your spirit guides form the pre-requisite for advanced work. This is an experiential workshop. $150 Learn moreRegister for this class
