Mantras
7:00 a.m.,
Monday - Saturday

A practice group for the chanting of mantras in Irdin. This work comes through the teachings of Jose Trigueirinho. Irdin is a sacred language, not for conversation. Its sounds have the power to help shape the etheric structure needed for the action of the evolutionary energies that work in the cosmos. The practice carries with it the qualities of devotion, silence and service.

world in hands green globe"The spiritual quest is not for interesting "spiritual experiences" but for the expansion of our capacity for mercy, the opening of our hearts wide enough to embrace the world, and not just the fragments of it, here and there, which at present we manage to feel with and care about."

Martin L. Smith, A Season for the Spirit:

Readings for the Days of Lent, p. 27

Greetings,

As the weather takes our whole country for a rollercoaster ride, and across the Middle East a wave of protesters risk death to show their opposition to governmental repression, we catch our collective breath and focus on "opening our hearts wide enough to embrace the world."

As we watch the world struggle to transform, this coming Sunday we'll consider metamorphoses from Glory that occur on the spiritual path. Then we'll begin Lent with The Temptations, and approaching the Spring Equinox, we examine cosmic resurrection as nature responds with new life and the victory of light over darkness.

Two very tempting classes this month prepare us to gather all we can through spiritual science study: "Three Spring Festivals and Nine Successive Solar Festivals" (March 14-18) and "The Hidden Forces of Life" (March 21-25). Light of Christ Community Church invites everyone to attend the Practitioner and Ordination Service at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21, and we ponder the importance of Gratitude on the final Sunday of March.

You may wish to light your own Lenten candles with us as we walk the path to Easter. Too often Lent, an ancient word for springtime, has been misunderstood as a time of grim repentance, but it is really meant to be a time of fresh starts, and the joy that budding daffodils, singing birds and blossoming trees proclaim each spring. Here is a list of the themes for each Sunday in the Lenten season:

First Sunday:  Temptation - Don't get caught in the maya and illusion.

Second Sunday: Shaping an appropriate response to God's call.

Third Sunday: Becoming a conscious co-worker with God, and use wisely opportunities that come.

Fourth Sunday: Faith - Finding answers in the heart. Intuitively knowing.

Fifth Sunday: Spiritual maturity, renewal, commitment, and building a high consciousness. Cycles allow us to try and try again.

Sixth Sunday: Palm Sunday - Triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Historically: Jesus; Personally: our own.

We at LCCC find it bittersweet to say goodbye (and thank you from the bottoms of our hearts) to Rev. Dr. Robert Willson as he retires from his role as Co-Pastor. Rev. Willson serves in various roles at Light of Christ Community Church, and he will continue his service where he best feels his gifts meet the mutual needs of his retirement life and the organization. Additionally, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Retha Banez as Pastor. Rev. Banez has served as a Co-Pastor in the church since the spring of 2005. She brings a wealth of devotion to individual spiritual expression and a dedication to service and the values of group work.

More entertaining and inclusive experiences are being added all the time! Many of them can help "open our hearts wide enough to embrace the world." Let's do it together.

Blessings,

Transfiguration Sunday

"From Glory to Glory!"

Rev. Steven Chase

Steven ChaseTransfiguration Sunday is the final and climactic Sunday in the Epiphany season. On Transfiguration Sunday, we celebrate Jesus' transfiguration (literally, his metamorphosis) on the mountain. Today's lesson will reflect on epiphanies and the metamorphoses that occur on the spiritual path as we reflect on the teachings and life of the Christ.

First Sunday in Lent

"Get Ready - It's Temptations Sunday"

Rev. Mary Jane Dicus & Rev. Sue Van Dyke
Mary Jane DicusSue Van DykeWhen first asked to do a sermon on this date, we had no idea that this was the first Sunday in Lent with the theme of Temptation. We thought, "Well, no problem. The Temptations was one of our favorite R & B groups while we were growing up." Ah, the many meanings, layers, and extended thoughts that abound in the one word topic of Temptations. So, please join us as we explore through music, readings, and stories, the multi-leveled Ball of Confusion (maya and illusion) that can blind us when we are not aware of The Way We Do the Things We Do. No, it is not Just Your Imagination Running Away With You. Because We Can't Get Next to You, we would enjoy having you with us. In yet another song title of the Temptations, we join them in saying, we Ain't Too Proud to Beg.

Third Sunday in Lent

"Gratitude" (Rescheduled from Feb. 6)

Rev. Peggy Willson

Peggy WillsonThe things we receive in life and are grateful for are largely determined by our mind set. Gratitude recharges our soul energy, gives us a positive outlook on life and makes us successful in meeting life's challenges. "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24)

The Celestial Hierarchy of Pisces

Pisces by Johfra
Pisces by Johfra

The Celestial Hierarchy of Pisces, known as the Lords of Compassion for their tender, wise, and caring response to human needs, rules from February 18 to March 20. Many of humanity's advanced souls join this hierarchy and return to minister to humanity from this elevated point of service.

The cosmic pattern held above the Earth by this hierarchy is that of a perfected human, created in the image and likeness of God. We are given a glimpse of this heavenly human manifesting divinity within. Under the hierarchy of Pisces, universal love is sought. When lessons are completed and the Path of Initiation realized, we become God-Realized-the Christ-Consciousness demonstrated.

Each year, under the watchful eye of the Lords of Compassion, we undergo a period of recapitulation and self-examination. Under their care, we bring together the duality and dichotomy of our own natures. We have to struggle with our emotions and our minds; we have to deal with spirit and matter; we have to blend our fiery nature with the tender sensitivity we also carry. This is the eternal process of initiation. Now is the time to evaluate and renew our commitment to the ongoing work of becoming all that we can be. We do our inner work and prepare ourselves for the incoming energies of spring, Aries, renewal.
