Greetings,
The next forty days are filled with opportunities to acknowledge the Divine Feminine Energy and Birthing Mysteries, as well as anniversaries and annual celebrations that add to the rich texture of life in the Tahlequah area.
The middle of the month brings the annual Re-Dedication of Sparrow Hawk Village.
On August 15, 1982, Sparrow Hawk Village was dedicated, "In Honor of the Divine Mother." The foremost goal of the village has been to create an environment that fosters personal growth and an atmosphere of mutual sharing and respect. Now the concept of sustainability expands on that perspective as commitment deepens.
Contemporary Sacred Feminine Voices are heard as the sun moves into the earthy Virgo energy, followed by the Full Moon on August 24. Purity characterizes this second Earth sign in the zodiac. The reappearing symbol of Mother and Child reminds us that each individual is birthing the Christ-Within, knowingly or unknowingly.
The next Friday, August 27, marks the centenary of Mother Teresa's birth, August 27, 1910. One hundred years after the birth of this remarkable woman, her words and actions maintain a high bar for the demonstration of unwavering acceptance and service. As villagers co-work in community, Mother Teresa's words have added impact. When reflecting on the need to labor together in kindness, she wrote:
Let us be very sincere with each other and have the courage to accept each other as we are. Do not be preoccupied with each other's failures; rather find the good in each other, for each one of us is created in the image of God.
The final week in August brings the annual four day celebration of the Cherokee National Holiday. What's it all about? LCCC's attention that Sunday is on the greater community surrounding Sparrow Hawk Mountain and the enduring Cherokee heritage and culture. The courage, hard work, and spiritual awareness of our neighbors gave birth to the unique and flourishing city that Tahlequah is today.
Speaking of giving birth, Sancta Sophia is offering a class on the subject! The third 2010 Graduate Week is titled, " Birth: Implications on the Soul." Rev. Carol Parrish and retired mid-wife Debbie Dise have a fascinating investigation of the birthing process planned for September 6-10. Conventional wisdom about childbirth will be reexamined as Ancient Wisdom concepts are explored. Everyone interested in this analysis is welcome to attend the morning class for a reduced price.
See the schedule to the left for links to the wonderful events, classes, and Sunday lessons offered in August. With all these exciting things going on, this is a great time to visit. Blessings,

Sunday, August 1, 10:30 a.m.
"Be the Glory of God" Rev. Peggy Eaton
We are to be expressions of God in the world. That is our divine purpose and our human/body/earth purpose. Now we can act that out in a variety of ways, professions, callings and interactions. Let's explore divine ways to be in the world and not of it. Let us explore the metaphysical currents we stir when we are not expressing our highest good. Shanti.

"Fresh As a Daisy" Rev. Tom Simota
Opportunities for discovering new and exciting ways to approach/serve life abound on a regular basis, but do we always have the "eyes to see" and "the ears to hear" these various callings? Where are you on your stage of growth concerning a particular attribute of your being? Are you the seedling just beginning a new journey, or are you perhaps in full bloom, or maybe even withering on the vine? Regardless of where you are currently with the attribute you are reflecting on, please remember to "always have a beginner's mind." This phrase is key to the practice of yoga, so we might consider applying it to the practice of living our daily life. When we become stuck in our ways, the "beginner's mind" seems to be more of a challenge -- like a weed in a flower garden. As we are open to change, and a beginner's mind, we greet life "fresh as a daisy." What's in your flowerpot?

"In Honor of the Mother" Rev. Retha Banez & Rev. Robert Willson
Our lovely village is dedicated to the Mother. On this special Sunday, Feast Day of the Virgin Mary, all are invited to join the co-pastors as they lead us through an annual exercise in a Re-Dedication of Sparrow Hawk Village. Together let us envision our future and give thanks for the blessings of the Mother upon each one of us.

"Contemporary Sacred Feminine Voices" Rev. Sue Van Dyke & Troupe
Building on the sacred feminine voices of the past as presented earlier this year, we continue our study of the women who in more contemporary times, continue to push, prod, uplift, challenge, dissect, and remind us of who we are and the World Servers we are to become. Join us as a troupe of LCCC ministers once again present the sacred poetry, essays, stories, songs, and inspirational writings of many heartfelt feminine voices.

Sunday, August 29, 10:30 a.m.
"What's It All About?" Practitioner Jenny Roberts
This week will begin the celebration of the Cherokee National Holiday. Join us in our sacred circle as we reflect on a little of the culture and traditions of the tribe that calls Tahlequah its capital. An understanding of our neighbors, the culture and the sacred mountain we live on can only help us as we travel on our Path down the Red Road.
