M.C. Richards, Artist & Philosopher
By Richard Kane
M.C. Richards"We need the courage of authenticity
to carry the originality
of imagination into expression."

M.C.'s ideas are truly witness to an essential, intuitive understanding which connects us to the cosmos, to our spirituality, and to our creative selves. In her talk on "Imagination and Authenticity as Doorways to Creation," given in Oakland in 1992 and published in Deborah Haynes' Opening Our Moral Eye, she said, "Imagination is Spiritual Perception and Authenticity is Spiritual Presence....We need the courage of authenticity to carry the originality of imagination into expression."  The courage of authenticity!   In other words, we need to be our true selves in order to create something real.   She wasn't into "excellence" she said.  That's an external measure.  She was into inner truth.  Isn't this a truly freeing concept for the artist?  Don't worry about the marketplace.  Don't worry about what you think others might consider beautiful.  Find it within yourself:  That's when the greatest art is made. "Imagination", she continued, "means receptivity to the creative unconscious, the macrocosmic mind, the artistic mind."

Week 1
ESOTERIC CHRISTIANITY I, II, III:
Rev. Carol E. Parrish
Sophia returns to the hearts and minds of her people, though she has been lost to many. Esoteric Christianity has always understood the transformational power of Wisdom. Judaism has Kabalah; Islam has Sufism and Christianity has its esoteric side, often called Sophianic. Mystery teachings provide access to the transformation process. May we greet Christ-Sophia within our hearts; may our path be wise. Understanding Esoteric Christianity changes the way we perceive the world in which we live. Join us in a fresh appreciation of the heart-centered path.

The Death of the Mythic God
A former Catholic Monk explores the revolutions in spiritual thought that are transforming religion and forever changing the face of God

An interview with Jim Marion
by Carter Phipps

Jim MarionWhat Is EnlightenNext magazine: The title of your latest book is The Death of the Mythic God: The Rise of Evolutionary Spirituality. The theme of the book is that we in the West are leaving behind a certain stage in our understanding of the nature of God. You claim that it is not God who has died, but a particular conception of God. What do you mean by that?

Jim Marion: Over the last fifty years-probably longer, but especially in the last fifty years-modern psychology has shown that people progress in consciousness from one level to another to another, and every time you go up a level in consciousness, your worldview changes. That includes your idea of who or what God is. So a person who operates, for example, at a rational level of consciousness has a very different idea of God than a person who operates at a mythological level of consciousness. The average person in the West, and probably in the East, too, has basically conceived of God in mythological terms for most of the last three thousand years.

Week 2
ESOTERIC CHRISTIANITY I, II, III:
Rev. Carol E. Parrish
To find the real message of Christianity one has to sort out the gnosis from fiction. For centuries this has been the work, but today we consciously seek transformation as esoteric ideas are surfacing for those who are ready. Researchers, scientists, and translators are all doing their part in expansion of consciousness. This week we explore issues of mysteries, laws of life revealed, and powerful messages too often missed.
