Greetings,
The beginning of January is traditionally the time for New Year's resolutions. This is an annual renewal point at which we vow to live a cleaner, leaner, greener or more serene life in the year ahead. According to wiki.answers.com, however, 80 percent of those who make New Year resolutions have failed by Jan. 20. Resolutions seem difficult to keep.
Why not consider adopting a theme or virtue for your year instead? For instance, you might want to concentrate on Gratitude in 2010. Or perhaps it is time for you to explore Forgiveness, how to accomplish it and what the benefits might be. Detachment from desiring the fruits of your deeds, or from directing the actions of others, might aid you this coming year. Pondering the Big Picture of your life and how you can better progress and develop as a Soul may inherently prove more successful than once again vowing to lose 20 pounds or work out at the gym three times a week.
Often, when we are consciously focusing on a blockage in our higher level spiritual development, the mundane parts of our lives are brought into the Light as well. Improving exercise and nutrition might become a beneficial consequence of consciously advancing a spiritual focus in your 2010 day-to-day living.
For more ideas about spiritual themes or virtues to adopt for your year ahead, consult the Agni Yoga sections on pages six and seven of The New Dictionary of Spiritual Thought by Carol E. Parrish-Harra.
There are five stimulating and uplifting Sunday services planned for the first month of the new year at Light of Christ Community Church. See the schedule below, and if you are not able to attend, remember that the Sunday talks are available on our Listening Page. The audios are normally accessible by Wednesday following, so even if you can't be with us in body, we can come together in spirit at any time.
Have you checked out the exciting classes offered at Sancta Sophia Seminary in 2010? The academic year begins with an exploration of Mysticism in late February, followed by a Creativity class that seeks to establish pathways of soul contact. Discover which classes on the 2010 Schedule dovetail with your personal spiritual theme for the year, and plan to come for an enriching visit.
All of us at Light of Christ Community Church are praying for Peace in our World and Good Will in the hearts of people everywhere.
May 2010 bring you great Joy,
All the ministers at Light of Christ Community Church

Sunday, Jan. 10, 10:30 a.m. Baptism of Our Lord Sunday
"Baptism: A Luminous Mystery" Rev. Retha Banez
This Sunday brings us to the end of the Christmas Season in the church year as we awaited the Birth of Christ. We come together now to celebrate the first of the Luminous Mysteries of Light, reflecting on the deeper meaning of the second of the Christian initiations - baptism. We remember Jesus today, both from an exoteric and esoteric point of view, as he entered into the River Jordon and received a baptism of both water and fire, and embodied the Christ Presence for his three year ministry on Earth. This is also a time for us to remember our own baptism, and what entering into the Body of Christ means for our life. Rev. Banez invites those who choose to participate, to wear white to this special service, and receive a baptism renewal through a short ritual within our church service.

Sunday, Jan. 17, 10:30 a.m.
"E.G.O. Edging God Out" Rev. Robert Willson
We all would probably agree that this world is one of duality. Yet, in spite of all of the great diversity and complication that we see in the world, every response that we can make is either motivated by our ego or by Spirit. We will share some inspiring stories in which, in spite of great temptation, the choice is made to follow Spirit and what some of the amazing consequences were. How might we do likewise?
Officiator: Rev. Sue Van Dyke

Sunday, Jan. 24, 10:30 a.m.
"Selfish Sacrifice" Rev. Helen Weiser
The word "sacrifice," as we know, means to "make sacred." Did you know that the process of "making sacred" so greatly enhances our blessings that a sacrifice is actually a very selfish act?! But a sacrifice can never be offered for the purpose of gaining such a selfish blessing; it just happens as our desire for purification expands into action. We grow in soul purpose and the "little self" dances for joy!

Sunday, Jan. 31, 10:30 a.m.
"Making a Joyful Noise" Rev. Peggy Eaton
This Sunday service, we will sing our way through the lesson. We will focus on songs that help us REJOICE and feel that joy, joy, joy, joy - down in our hearts, [where?] down in our hearts [where?] DOWN IN OUR HEARTS!! You don't have to have an operatic voice, just make a joy-full noise!!! Come prepared to sing away your blues - sing at the top of your lungs - shake a rattle, bang a tambourine, clap your hands, play a drum, and, YES, move your body!! Try it! Go Lightly!
Officiator: Rev. Peg Willson Communion: Rev. Robert Willson Hierarchy Meditation/Offertory Blessing: Rev. Peg Willson Minister of Music: Rev. Roberta Wilkes Pianists: Rev. Roberta Wilkes or Doris Pass

Love is a Promise, a Discipline, and a Lifestyle - eBook
Love comes, like ice cream, in many flavors, forms and fashions. Always designed to advance our personal growth, it is sometimes painful and sometimes a delight. While we tend to relate love to sexuality, love remains a mystery that can be surprisingly revealed when we discover it's true depth.
"Love is a Promise" is a rich little eBook written by Carol E. Parrish-Harra, noted author and teacher.
