An Invitation From Carol
Dear Friends and Friends We Have Not Yet Met,

cep bw minOne of the most anticipated events of our church is rapidly approaching. Each year, our teachers, ministers, students, church members and friends gather to review the year and enjoy each other's company as we address church business, listen to lectures and presentations, enjoy entertainment and worship together. Each year during this annual homecoming, Light of Christ invites an outstanding presenter to lead us in a significant topic for a two day workshop, which we call the conference segment of our homecoming week.

This year, John White will stimulate us with thoughts about the enlightenment process within the Christian Tradition. What a topic! You will see much more about his program in the following paragraphs. I want to invite you to be with us for the exciting thoughts rarely expressed with such authenticity. You are welcome to attend any of the events during the homecoming week, or if you would prefer, you can come specifically for John White's workshop. Please refer to the schedule below for details. Come, join us, and hear John White!

Blessings,
Rev. Carol E. Parrish

Conference Workshop

crs"Enlightenment and the Judeo-Christian Tradition"
November 9 - 10

John White returns to Sparrow Hawk Village to explore the meaning of Judeo-Christianity with regard to the process of personal growth, human evolution, the Holy Grail and world affairs. He will present an overview of culture today which shows the human race is on the verge of an evolutionary advance, as evidenced by many events and trends around the globe. Through an examination of the meaning of "metanoia," or radical transformation of consciousness, John will relate the spiritually questing individual and a planet-wide process of growth to a higher state of being through the teachings, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He will also examine the Judeo-Christian tradition to show the meaning of evolution and the significance of the so-called New Age Movement, so that true and false spirituality can be discerned. He will describe the stages of consciousness unfoldment for the individual and for the human race.

2007 Sancta Sophia Seminary Fund Raiser

We have had raffles, auctions, jewelry and white elephant sales to raise funds for our seminary.  All have been successful and we appreciate those who have given so generously to these events.  I have worked several years behind the scenes to prepare the merchandise, sell the raffle tickets and present these events to all of you.  When Carol Parrish asked for my ideas for a fund raiser for our 2007 Annual Conference, I suggested the following:

1.      No raffle, no auction, no jewelry or white elephant sale

2.      Make it simple

3.      Tell people how they can help

With that in mind, we are appealing to the simplicity of our needs.  In the past, we have divided the money raised between our Sancta Sophia Scholarship Fund and the Operating Budget.  Our range of success has been between $2000 and $4000.

I spoke with several people last year involved in the sale of items and the raffles.  We all agreed that the work involved to pull these events off is tremendous.  The suggestion was for a certain number of people to simply give a set amount.

So, I thought it would be a fun idea to have a grid with the following breakdown: 80 spaces, each with a dollar value.  You simply buy that space.  We fill up the grid and the fund raiser is over.  No one bothers you.  It will be at the front office with a box for your donation.  Your donation or pledge can be made anytime before the end of Conference.  Your check should be made to Light of Christ Community Church.  It is tax deductible as a donation.  Pledges should be fulfilled by December 31, 2007.  If you want to send it in now, just put 2007 SSS Fund Raiser in the memo area.  We'll mark your spot off the grid.

We will simply ask:

            20 people to donate $100 = $2000

            20 people to donate $50 =   $1000

            20 people to donate $25 =   $ 500

            20 people to donate $10 =   $ 200

This would raise $3700.  A respectable sum for a fund raiser and very doable.

Think about it.  The average amount a person donates runs about $50.  If you are one of the higher end individuals who would buy raffle tickets every day, just write your check for $100 or $200.  If you are tight with funds, give $10.  If your usual spending on these events runs about $75, mark off a $50 spot and a $25 spot.  You are not limited to one spot and if we go over and above the grid, what wonderful and generous people you are.

Having a fund raiser this way allows the workers from all the years past to enjoy Conference.  They will not be spending their time and energy selling tickets, marking and selling merchandise or begging you for your funds. We love this seminary.  So many of you ask how you can help.  It's this simple.  Just do it.
