The mission of The Episcopal School of Knoxville is to prepare students for higher education and a lifetime of learning within the context of a loving, family-centered environment. We enrich our students' intellectual, physical, cultural and spiritual growth so that they may realize their potential as children of God and involved citizens of local, state and international communities.

Fall Festival is Saturday!
Fall Festival is Saturday, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m! Make plans to attend this family-friendly, outdoor celebration that is popular community wide and generates funds for ESK too. Ticket sales will take place in carpool lines on Friday, allowing you to buy 40 tickets for $20 and get an extra 10 for free.

Glorious fall weather is anticipated, clearing the way for dunking booths!  Jay Secor, Peter Klekamp, Harrison Stuart,  Bryan Moore and Mat Luce all promise to be dunked. Come and enjoy the five new inflatables, including a Laser Tag model, midway games and concession stand treats. Best of all, take part in the live auction for custom-made baskets assembled by ESK classes. Choose from baskets with themes of Halloween, getaway packages,  Christmas, toys, books and more.

Family Fun!

Admission to the Fall Festival is nonperishable goods for the Mission of Hope. Barrels will be available at check-in. The enormously popular, handsome T shirts, designed by art teacher Sara Gibson and printed by Bacon and Co, quickly sold out. But check out the booster club table for new ESK T shirts and Bernie dogs. Plenty of parking is available on campus. Service hours given to Middle School volunteers, who are competing in a drawing for  iTune cards. See you there!
Welcome, Madame H!
Madame Farida Hadjerioua, our Middle School French teacher since spring of 2008, has been named Lower School French teacher as well, taking over from Madame Juliet McVay, who has stepped down to take care of family needs. She will teach children in grades 3-5. Madame Hadjerioua (pronounced Haj Ree Wa) brings a deep knowledge of both languages  and children to us. She is fluent in four languages (English, French, Arabic and Berber, the original language of North Africa), and she is the mother of three children of her own: Sonya, 16, Adam, 14, and Sabrina, 8. Born in Algeria and trained in college to teach languages, she and her husband, Boualan, an engineer with TVA, have been in Knoxville for the past 18 years.

Please purchase and decorate your own pumpkin beforehand and bring it with you to the event.  See you at the barn for a howling good time!

Middle School Dance
On Friday, Oct. 30, there will be a Middle School Halloween Dance. Sponsored by the SGA, the dance will be from 7-10 p.m. at the Bishop Center Gymnasium. Costumes are optional, and dress is casual. Admission to the dance will be $5. Proceeds will fund other SGA events. For more information, see SGA President Jamie Wise or your class SGA representative.

Haunted Barn features a pumpkin decorating contest!
Friday Dress
On Friday of this week, students may wear their fall festival T-shirt in place of their uniform shirt. It is not a free dress day. The only fall festival shirt acceptable is this year's model; not one from years past. For middle school students, athletic tops may not be worn this Friday.

Students in the Lego Robotics class after school worked hard on their projects this week

Outerwear in Chilly Weather

As the weather turns cool this fall, it is important to remember the uniform policy pertaining to outerwear. Students may wear the coat or wrap of choice to school, but only approved uniform items may be worn in the classroom, to lunch and to chapel. This means that if your child wears non-uniform outerwear to school, he or she must remove it indoors. A convenient solution is to dress your child each chilly morning in a jacket, sweater, polar fleece or sweatshirt  that is school approved. Education Outfitters has a list of approved items or you might want to shop online at Lands End. They have some good looking school approved outerwear as well.

Excellent Speakers

Students at the Episcopal School enjoy many excellent visiting speakers. This week, they included Ann Sartwell of Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) and Guidance Speakers
Jennifer Tedder of the East Tennessee Mental Health Association.   Ms. Sartwell, mother of former ESK students Dora and Matthew Moore, told students at chapel about CISV and opportunities they might enjoy. Ms. Tedder  told eighth grade students  what mental health means. She encouraged them to understand good mental health, depression (causes and signs), and suicide warning signs and what to do.

Ann Sartwell told students about CISV in chapel this week.

See you at the Fall Festival!
