Dear Friends,
As you know from our announcement of the Scriptorium Project last fall, Gil has been working on a manuscript of a book and so has been mostly ensconced in his home office in San Diego. Meanwhile, I have been posting excerpts from his archive of recorded materials on his weblog, Reflections on Faith and Culture.
Since last November I have been working with the Famished Craving series recorded in 1995. In these talks Gil explores the phenomenon of fame through his unique approach using the anthropological tools provided by René Girard in connection with Christian theology. The attention of others, the fascination of the famous and the need for faith are all themes examined in this series. I encourage you to listen to these excerpts on the blog. The first three CDs and downloadable MP3 files in this series produced from the analog audio tapes are available on our website - follow the clickable icons below to our web store:

This is a lengthy 12 cassette tape series that will likely end up as 14 CDs/MP3s in digital form.
As a side note, in my editing of these audio tapes for recent blog entries I heard Gil, in 1995, recount from then current periodicals and newspapers reports of particularly instructive instances of the protean permutations of the phenomena of fame. For those who may have an interest in a 2011 update on this, a recent (2/13/11) episode of the 60 Minutes television news magazine produced an in depth report on Lady Gaga, the latest pop music idol, who claims to be a "scholar of fame".
Gil at DSPT
Gil was able to escape from the writing desk for a short trip to Northern California at the end of January where he spoke at the Convocation of the College of Fellows at the Domincan School of Philosophy and Theology. This was recorded by DSPT and is available for viewing on their video site. There are links to this on our public Cornerstone Forum homepage, and here below - (click on the image)
Supporting the Cornerstone Forum and the Scriptorium Project We continue to depend on the prayers and generosity of our friends to do our work. And an important part of this work is the Scriptorium Project. Many of our friends have become members of this project and collaborate with us by reading draft installments from Gil's writing desk. These draft texts are posted on our members only Friends of the Cornerstone Forum site. Members may read the texts and send us their comments and concerns about these texts and other issues related to our work. Gil and I have recorded two split screen video conversations posted on the site where we discuss comments and questions posed by Scriptorium members.
