Greetings!
I am writing this newsletter as the summer San Francisco fog envelopes our office building and lazily makes its way towards the edge of the bay only blocks away.
Summer is a magical time in this city and it has continued to be a busy time for Spiller Law.
Since our last newsletter, our team has:
- Successfully negotiated a prime-time reality television show agreement
- Been chosen to provide legal services for five film productions
- Created several private offerings for entertainment and non-entertainment companies
- Formed several companies for clients
- Negotiated numerous intellectual property agreements
- Negotiated an office lease for a major client
- Formed a television and film production company
- Advised a client with respect to a fraud claim against a major national mortgage company
- Formed an endowment for a non-profit musical organization
- Negotiated a partnership agreement for owners of a literary magazine
- Created a number of estate plans for individuals and couples
We look forward to continue to provide excellent and caring legal services to our clients in the areas of business, estate planning and entertainment.

Go Far Productions, LLC
Producer Zack Arnold has chosen Spiller Law to handle the legal matters relating to the production of his new documentary film, currently titled, Go Far: The Christopher Rush Story, due to be completed this year. It is about a remarkable human being and Zack's very close friend who passed away a year ago, Christopher Rush. At the age of seven months old, doctors diagnosed Chris with spinal muscular atrophy, one of the most debilitating forms of muscular dystrophy. Although his life expectancy was only two years, he lived thirty. And during his life, he was a local, state, and national poster child and spokesperson for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and he met countless celebrities and political figures including Ronald Reagan, Dan Marino, Harrison Ford, and Sammy Davis Jr, just to name a few. He threw the first pitch out at many major league baseball games, he went to his high school prom, he was the manager of his basketball team, he was the only licensed scuba diver in the country with muscular dystrophy, he graduated high school at the top of his class, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, and in 2005 he graduated from Wayne State University with a law degree. He was studying for the bar exam when he died of respiratory failure. Chris achieved all of this while having lived his entire life from a wheelchair. For many years, the only voluntary function he could control was speech. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, he maintained an optimistic outlook on life, and moreover, he inspired everyone around him to do the same. Shortly before his death, Chris developed a motivational program to help anyone achieve their goals, regardless of the obstacles. He called it GO FAR. This film teaches his program in hopes of inspiring others to achieve their goals, no matter what. Tracy Balsz at IndieMarketing is handling publicity and marketing for the film. Wanted Premiere in Westwood
The LA Film Festival in June provided an opportunity to meet with industry colleagues and clients, and to attend interesting panel discussions focusing on film finance and internet distribution.
Dave Grusin with friends, Noah Perry and Jim HudakI had the special treat of meeting an idol of mine, composer Dave Grusin,
at one of the panel discussions. His many awards include an Oscar for
best original score for The Milagro Beanfield War, as well as Oscar
nominations for The Champ, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Firm, Havana,
Heaven Can Wait, and On Golden Pond.
Pictured above, left to right: Noah Perry, myself, Dave Grusin, and Jim Hudak. Noah is an expert music supervisor and recording engineer, and Jim is a former SESAC executive and very talented songwriter and performer. Both are dear friends of mine.

An All-American swimmer at Cal, Peter won two silver medals at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and led Cal to the NCAA National Swimming Championship. His son, Nick, is entering Cal as a freshman in the fall.
