Greetings!
This newsletter is to thank my clients, friends and family for helping me grow my law practice over the past year. With the help of wonderful colleagues, I am building Spiller Law into a robust entertainment, estate planning, and business law firm that emphasizes excellence and customer service. Over the past few months, our team has: - Helped a client form a feature film company (the film is due out in 2008);
- Drafted a historic endowment agreement for the San Francisco Boys Chorus;
- Represented a client who owns rights to the Duke Ellington's folk opera "Queenie Pie" in negotiations with Stanford University;
- Drafted a partnership agreement for a Berkeley investment club;
- Successfully negotiated a satisfactory settlement with the State Attorney General's Office in a civil matter saving a client over $20,000;
- Advised a client in a whistle blower action against a Alameda Public Housing Agency;
- Successfully negotiated a settlement in an employee harassment case;
- Helped a hi-tech start-up form its corporation;
- Performed critical research to allow a California company to purchase a Canadian company; and
- Helped a number of clients execute their estate plans.
We are growing, we are having fun, and we are very grateful for your support.

In June, I travelled to Westwood to attend the LA Film Festival and the Film Finance Seminar. Film law is an exciting and growing part of our entertainment practice. We are looking to open a satellite office in LA soon.

ROBERT REDFORD VISITS OUR BUILDING!
|
|
Robert Redford attends Art Show at 921 Front Street
One evening in May, courtesy of Linda Fairchild, a wonderfully talented art gallery owner and dealer in our office building, Robert Redford visited to see artist Sibylle Szaggars' show. Sibylle is Robert's long-time companion and Linda's client. It made for an exciting evening for everyone.

STANFORD PRO DAY
|
|
Athletes perform for Pro Scouts
In April, I attended Stanford's "Pro" Day, a day where graduating seniors hoping to be drafted in the NFL Draft performed drills for the Pro Scouts in attendance.
We are planning to make strides in building our sports practice in the next several months.

SAN FRANCISCO BOYS CHORUS ENDOWMENT
|
|
Historic Endowment
On July 28, the San Francisco Boys Chorus took a historic step and created its first ever endowment fund in honor of its founding director, Madi Bacon. I was privileged, as a former chorister, to have been chosen by the Board of Directors to draft the agreement that made it happen. I worked out the details with Peter Libby, MD, the principal donor, former chorister and now Chief of Cardiology at Harvard Medical School. The fund is to provide music education scholarships for deserving choristers. The target for the endowment is $2 million.

DUKE ELLINGTON'S OPERA "QUEENIE PIE"
|
|
Negotiations to begin with Stanford University
I am in the beginning stages of licensing the rights to Stanford University to premiere Duke Ellington's Opera Queenie Pie. My client is co-owner of the opera and is eager to see it, the last work written by Duke Ellington, finally performed in its original form.
The premiere is planned for Spring 2008.
