Samhain: The Perfect Night For Divination!

On Samhain night, the veil between the spiritual dimensions thins as the ethereal atmosphere takes over, leaving contact between dimensions easier. Throughout centuries and cultures the night of Oct 31st, All Hallow's Eve, and likewise, Nov 1, All Saint's Day, have had a overall pattern of celebrating the life of those that have come before, contacting spirits from the other side, and setting up protection from unwanted energies.
The jack-o-lantern is the most famous way to protect your home from unwanted 'ghosts and ghoulies'. Of course, a fresh sage-ing will help to keep the energy positive through the night.
Divination for many can be the most potent on this night. I, personally, enjoy a tradition of doing a Samhain night tarot reading. Those of wicca or witchcraft and some pagan backgrounds will recognize All Hallow's Eve as our "New Year's Eve".
The tarot layout I use is the 12 month clockwise spread. Begin by clearing and grounding. This divination is best done between the hours of 9 pm and 3 am on Oct.31/Nov.1 by candlelight. Choose your cards the way you normally would. When laying out the spread take the first card and place it at the 'one' position of a clock-face. The next card will go in the 'two' position and so on. Each card represents the 12 months of the year. You can interrept the cards received as the prevailing energy of that particular month in the future. Since this is the Witch's New Year, card one will represent November, card two - December, three - January, etc.
