A Family Reunion at Whispering Pines, the perfect place to get together.
For over 30 years, family members have taken turns hosting our 5-day family reunions every four years. We've gathered in the states of California, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, and for the first time in 2010, at Whispering Pines Conference Center in Rhode Island. Without a doubt, this year's reunion was the best ever. Sixty-five members of the family stayed at the four beautiful lodges at the center. Not only was the setting breathtaking, but there was so much to do there in addition to wonderful day trips within 30-45 minutes of the campus.
We can't say enough about the helpfulness of the staff. They seemed to know what would enhance every moment of our stay. When we'd say, "Wow, this couldn't be better", they managed to figure out ways to spoil us even more. The food was better than we've had at the finest five-star restaurants, and the staff worked within every dietary requirement we had. Whispering Pines Conference Center is the gold standard for family reunion sites. The staff rates a solid 10 on a scale of 1-10. Our only complaint is that it was very difficult to settle for our "normal" life when the reunion was over.

Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad
Serves 2-4
3/4 pound seedless watermelon
3/4 pound heirloom tomatoes
3 oz Ricotta Salata Cheese
8 leaves of basil
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
sea salt, to taste
Cut the watermelon into large, imperfect chunks and slice the heirloom tomatoes into wedges. Combine in a bowl.
Crumble Ricotta Salata Cheese over the watermelon and tomato mixture, add basil, torn by hand, and toss gently with olive oil.
Season, to taste, with sea salt. Enjoy immediately before the fruit releases too much juice.
