The Alpine Training Center is a strength & conditioning gym for all types of athletes.  From professional mountain guides to avid recreationalists, our unique and proven programming focuses on full body strength, increased work capacity and durability.  We work in a group format with training sessions lasting an hour long.  We push our athlete's strength, we push their lungs and we push their limits in hopes of challenging their physical and mental toughness so they may better perform in their chosen sport or realize their personal goals.

2010 IFMGA Fall Conference - Boulder, Colorado

The IFMGA Fall Conference will coincide with the AMGA Annual Meeting, and we're counting on our Membership to attend and take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity.  A few of the events are reserved solely for the international delegates, but there are several others that will be open to everyone.  Our goal is to provide ample opportunity for our members to interact with our guests from abroad.  We will be hosting our usual Opening Night and Main Events complete with product giveaways, eating, drinking, raffle, silent auction and more.  And while we've done away with the Professional Development Clinics this year there will be several, informal climbing days to allow for the sharing of knowledge/technique.

We have created a blog just for the event - www.ifmga2010.com - and will be updating it as things progress.  We'd like for anyone planning on attending to register, so we can plan accordingly.  Just select the "registration" tab and complete the form.  Registration is absolutely free.  We've listed some recommended lodging options and are working on securing a host hotel for the event.  Regardless of where you choose to sleep, we suggest you take care of it sooner rather than later.  The event falls on the same weekend as a CU home football game so you will be fighting for space with slew of rabid Iowa State Cyclones fans.  We have secured group pricing at the Hotel Boulderado.  The rates and booking information can be found at www.ifmga2010.com/?page_id67.

To guarantee the success of the events we've reached out to our Corporate Partners and the response has been amazing.  To date we've signed on The North Face as the Conference Sponsor; Black Diamond and Patagonia as Moab Climbing Trip Co-sponsors; Outdoor Research and Petzl as Opening Night Co-sponsors; Five Ten, Marmot, Osprey and W.L. Gore as Presenting Sponsors; Arc'teryx, Brooks-Range, Mammut, Mountain Hardwear and Prana as Supporting Sponsors.
Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Training

On May 19-20, 2010 a AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Training will be offered.  The training will be run by Joe Lentini, CWI Discipline Coordinator, and will be taking place in Boulder, Colorado.  The training starts 2 days after the Climbing Wall Association Annual Meeting.

This training is intended for people with a strong background in climbing gym or climbing structure instruction and/or management who would like to be able to offer AMGA CWI Certification courses.  If you or your organization have an interest in becoming an AMGA licensed CWI Provider, the first step is to review the prerequisites at: www.amga.com/programs/CWIprovider_training.php. Candidates that meet and, ideally, exceed the prerequisites should apply to Ed Crothers, AMGA Climbing Instructor Program Director.  Email works best ([email protected]) or, if you have questions, Ed can be reached by phone at 970-271-0984. To apply submit a cover letter and resume showing you meet the prerequisites in MS Word, Word Perfect or PDF format. If you have AMGA exam transcripts (showing examiner final evaluations and marks) please send them with your application or we can get them from the AMGA database if you don't have them. Deadline for submitting application materials is April 23.

The six best candidates from these applications will be selected. Those selected will be invited to participate in the CWI Provider Training. Applicants that were unsuccessful will be given feedback and can apply for the next CWI Provider Training if they meet the prerequisites.

Tents for Haiti

The rainy season is approaching in Haiti and the need for tent housing is huge and urgent.  I live in SW Florida and am collecting tents to be flown to Haiti.  Any sort of tent of any size will be put to good use.  Tents can be sent to me at my home via UPS:

I have contacts within the Haitian Community and the Christian Community here in Florida so as tents come in they will be quickly sent to Haiti.  If someone wanted to donate money please visit flbaptist.org which has many churches in Haiti that are partners with US churches.  This means there will still be caring, loving people on the ground in Haiti a year and two and three years from now...

Please contact me with any questions and thank you so much for your consideration!
