July To-Do Lists

Rising Seniors
  • Identify which of your colleges offer interviews and schedule them either on campus when you visit or, if available, in your local community. Be sure to rehearse key messages about yourself and prepare questions.
  • Set a goal to complete either the Common Application (available August 1) or the Universal Application (both include a personal essay and short response on an activity) before school starts. Remember that a few schools do not accept these applications so be sure to check before completing.
  • Work on extras such as resumes, electronic art portfolios, and DVDs of film, music, and other talents that can be presented electronically.
Rising Juniors
  • Set personal and academic goals for the coming year that will position you for improved grades and increase involvement in your school and community.
  • Assess your study skills and work habits and determine any changes you should make. Remember, your performance junior year affects your college options and it is never too late to make changes so you will be a better candidate.
