In response to the troubling results uncovered by a survey
they conducted on the topic of women's relationships to their feet, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) urges
everyone, and women in particular to "Be Sweet to Your Feet" this February.
The AMPA survey results were troubling, revealing that women not
only consistently neglect proper foot care, but frequently suffer foot pain
unnecessarily rather than seek treatment.
91 percent of women report
that they pay more attention to their hair, skin, face, and hands and nearly
3/4 of women have never visited a podiatrist, even though 82 percent have
suffered from a foot ailment.
Although men were not included in the APMA's recent survey, a
Shopzilla survey conducted in 2006 on the topic of people's attitudes towards
foot care and their feet revealed that only 15 percent of men had ever received
a pedicure!
On behalf of injured, aching, and neglected feet everywhere
we urge you to take the APMA's advice and show your feet a little extra love
this February!
Whether it be by getting yourself a pedicure, replacing
unsupportive or ill-fitting shoes with healthier alternatives, or taking the
time to give or receive a foot massage; give some thought to the health and
comfort of your feet this month. Your feet bear and have born your weight
faithfully every day of your life. Reward a job well-done and reap the benefits
of healthy pain-free feet.
