Contact Lens Solution Linked to Eye Infections
May 29, 2007
As of May 25, 2007 AMO Canada removed their contact
lens solution Complete MoisturePlus from store
shelves. The solution was removed due to a few
reports of a rare and serious eye infection called
Acanthamoeba keratitis caused by a parasite.
Dr. Naruszewicz, Dr. Wilk and Associates are
recommending to all their patients that they stop using
Complete MoisturePlus until more information
becomes available. In addition, they are
recommending Solocare or Optifree as "All in One"
solution alternatives or Clear Care. These contact
lens solutions are available at any pharmacy or
drugstore.
In a statement released by AMO Friday:
"As patient safety is paramount to AMO, the company
is taking decisive action to stop shipments, recall
product from the marketplace, and encourage
consumers to discontinue the use of AMO Complete
MoisturePlus until further information is available."
If you are currently using Complete MoisturePlus
please discontinue use of the solution--do not throw
out until further notice. Throw your contact lens case
away and discard any contacts that have already been
soaked in the solution and seek advice from your
optometrist on a suitable contact lens solution
replacement. For further information on Complete
MoisturePlus or any other AMO products please
contact your optometrist.
We will keep you posted with updates as they become
available.
