Teacher Training Hours Clarification
Yoga Alliance requires hours to be obtained in 5 subjects:
(1) Techniques - which includes practice of asanas, pranayama and other yoga techniques;
(2) Teaching Methodology - the art of teaching yoga;
(3) Anatomy & Physiology - study of the anatomical structures pertaining to yoga practice;
(4) Philosophy - history, theory and yoga texts;
(5) Practicum - practice teaching.
Our 200 hour training covers the hours like this:
Anatomy on Thursday nights is 20 hours, and Teaching Methodology on Saturdays twice a month is 30 hours. 20 Philosphy hours are required and they can be obtained in the Heart of Yoga (Yoga Sutras) class on Friday night or the Sanskrit classes on Monday and Wednesday or the Sunday chanting classes. Students have a number of options for obtaining those hours, but only 20 hours are required. You are not expect to go to ALL the classes - just a minimum of 20 hours in any combination. Similarly, you must obtain 100 hours of Techniques in classes with an ERYT 500 teacher, and those can be any combination, so long as a minimum of 30 hours are in classes with me, the primary teacher trainer.
The syllabus shows all the classes that provide the hours you need, but you are only required to attend a certain number - not ALL of them. The number of hours you need in each subject is shown on the syllabus.
I wanted to give everyone several options because I knew that everyone will probably have to miss a class or two here and there. Some of you live out of town or have a work schedule that limits your options, and we can work out different ways for you to obtain all your hours.
I will go over this again briefly on Saturday, September 10, in the first Teaching Methodology class to make sure everyone understands the syllabus and how the hours work.
The John Friend DVDs are now here ($19.08 including tax) and the Value of Values books should be here within a day or two.
Namaste!
